He Slept With Her In My House I Made It His Worst Mistake Chapter 08

3 PM. Starbucks.

All four of them were there.

Bradley’s mom spoke first, forcing a smile. “Vivian, we’re family. Whatever this is, we can talk it out-”

“Mrs. Thorne,” I said, opening my folder. “Let me go first. Then you can talk.”

She stopped.

I laid the documents out one by one on the table.

First. The deed.

“Lakeside Vista, Building 7, Unit 1402. Buyer: Vivian Rhodes. Purchase price: $960,000. Paid in full. March 2021.”

I glanced at Bradley. “Two days ago, you told my parents you contributed three hundred thousand as a down payment. This is the deed. Your name isn’t on it. Because you never paid anything.”

His mother turned to him, stunned. “Bradley, you-”

He shifted in his seat. “That was… before we got married-”

I nodded. “Exactly. Before marriage. My personal asset.”

Second. Bank statements.

“Over the past four months, Bradley transferred $3,800 every month on the 15th to a female coworker named Chloe. Four consecutive months. His monthly salary is twelve thousand. He gives three thousand for household expenses. And sends Chloe thirty-eight hundred.”

My father had been silent the entire time. Now his hand rested on the table, knuckles tightening.

Third. Smart lock records.

“Over the past four months, the door to Unit 1402 has been opened more than 120 times. Weekdays. During work hours. I was at the office. Three weeks ago, the access code was changed to 0908. Chloe’s birthday.”

Bradley’s mother’s expression shifted. Not pale. Tight. Like she didn’t know which tone to use anymore. The “we’re family* tone didn’t work here.

She tried to recover. Failed. “This… this…”

I cut in. There’s one more.”

Fourth. Chloe’s written statement.

“Chloe’s testimony. Bradley told her he makes thirty thousand a month. Said the Lakeside Vista apartment was his. Claimed he paid a five hundred thousand down payment and took out a thirty-year mortgage. Also told her he was in

the process of divorcing me.”

1 flipped the page open. Chloe’s handwriting was neat and clear.

“He not only let her live in my apartment,” I said flatly, “he also collected three thousand a month from her as ‘rent.’ As

her landlord.””

Silence fell over the table.

Bradley finally spoke. “That’s not what happened-”

I looked straight at him. “Which part isn’t true?”

He stumbled. “Chloe… she insisted-”

I cut him off. “March 28. You added her contact. April 8. You asked her out. April 15. You brought her to my apartment

for the first time. Every step was initiated by you.”

“I—”

I let out a cold laugh. “You told her you make thirty thousand. You make twelve. You told her the apartment was yours.

You paid nothing. You said you were getting divorced. Where’s the agreement? Have you even seen one?”

He spoke faster, words tripping over each other. “At the time, I just… things were complicated… I didn’t mean-”

Three versions already. First, she seduced him. Second, it was complicated. A third excuse was probably coming.

His voice sped up. The contradictions piled on.

I tilted my head. “So which is it? She chased you, or it was complicated?”

He froze.

His mouth moved, but no sound came out.

His hand clenched inside his pocket, knuckles bulging.

Bradley’s mother stood up. Sat down. Stood again.

She looked at her son.

He didn’t look back.

She turned to my mother.

My mother didn’t look at her either.

Slowly, her shoulders slumped.

I gathered the documents and slid them back into the folder.

“Mr. Vance has already filed for asset preservation,” I said calmly. “Our joint account is frozen as of this afternoon. The divorce filing will be submitted next Monday.”

I stood, picked up my bag, and looked at Bradley one last time.

“There’s only one name on that deed. It isn’t yours. It never was.”

Then I walked out.

Without another word.
