He Signed Me As Nanny Not Wife For Ten Years Chapter 11

He Signed Me As Nanny Not Wife For Ten Years Chapter 11

After a year together, Ethan’s parents traveled all the way to northern New Mexico the following summer.

The moment they saw Nellie, whatever complaints they had about Ethan disappeared the moment they saw Nellie.

Mrs. Hayes took out a tiny gold locket and placed it around Nellie’s neck.

“Sweetheart, come to Grandma.”

When she saw me, Mrs. Hayes gave me a kind smile.

Then she slipped an heirloom bracelet from her wrist and put it on mine without allowing me to refuse.

“You’re a good woman. If Ethan ever mistreats you or Nellie, you tell me. I’ll handle him.”

“This bracelet was left to me by his grandmother. It’s passed down to the women who marry into the Hayes family. Now it’s yours.”

I was at a loss.

When you’ve gone without love for too long, sudden kindness can leave you completely defenseless.

In those days, whenever Nellie opened her eyes, she was either in Mrs. Hayes’s arms or holding Mr. Hayes’s hand while going out to ride horses.

Ethan and I went back to the city, filed the paperwork, and got legally married at the courthouse.

I thought Adrian and Sienna would never appear in my life again.

But I was wrong.

The day after we returned to the city, I went to the hospital to bring wedding treats to my former colleagues and supervisors.

The moment I looked up, Sienna blocked me at the hospital entrance.

She glared at me.

Then, in front of everyone, she dropped to her knees.

“Evelyn, I’m begging you. Stop trying to steal Adrian back. You’re already divorced. Can’t you let him go? Can’t you give me and Noah a real family? Please.”

Her cries were hoarse and desperate, as if she wanted the whole world to know that I was the mistress destroying her marriage.

Adrian arrived in a hurry at that exact moment.

After a year apart, the once proud and brilliant Professor Whitmore looked almost like a different person.

His gaze locked on me.

When Ethan quietly stepped in front of me, blocking him, Adrian lowered his head in defeat.

Listening to Sienna’s wailing, there was no longer any of the old favoritism in his eyes, only disgust remained.

“Enough.”

Sienna stared at him, hatred surging in her eyes.

“Not enough. Adrian Whitmore, you owe me. You said you would take me to New York and give me a better life.”

“But now I have nothing. Nothing. It’s all because of that bitch Evelyn —”

A slap cracked through the air.

Adrian could no longer hold back.

He swung his arm and struck Sienna hard across the face.

Staring at her, he said sharply, “Stop humiliating yourself.”

Then he grabbed Sienna’s arm and dragged her away without looking back.

Although he tried to keep his posture straight as he walked, I still noticed that his left leg was lame.

From my former colleagues, I learned that Adrian had tried to divorce Sienna, and the situation had become so ugly that everyone knew about it.

Sienna had gone mad.

Every day, she went to Adrian’s workplace and made a scene.

She even exposed their sham marriage for immigration papers.

Adrian had still been under institutional review, and because of her, he was sent back to his former department.

Their New York dream had shattered completely.

After returning to the county town, the two of them fought almost every day.

Adrian’s leg had been broken after he got drunk and fell.

He delayed getting proper treatment, and it never healed correctly.

After hearing all this, I felt nothing.

I held Ethan’s hand and got on the bus back to the Southwest.

The next thing I heard about Adrian was that he was dead.

Sienna, who had refused to divorce him no matter what, learned that Adrian had filed a lawsuit to get rid of her.

In a fit of rage, she stormed into the Whitmore home and stabbed him to death.

Sienna was arrested soon after.

After Adrian was buried, a letter was mailed to me.

There were only a few lines inside.

[I had a dream.]

[In the dream, you died beneath those grand, brilliant fireworks. Evelyn, those fireworks were always meant for you.]

[If only we had gotten through that day, I would have given you status. I would have given you everything. But Sienna destroyed it all.]

[I hate her. But I hate myself even more for causing everything.]

[I’ll put an end to this mistake myself. I’m sorry, Evelyn.]

I tossed the letter into the woodstove.

Ethan pushed the door open and came in with a smile.

“Nellie built a little snow bunny outside. Want to come see?”

I smiled.

“Okay.”

The End
