He Scorned Me, Now I’m a CEO He Can’t Afford Chapter 38

Logan smiled, a little sheepishly.

“My dad’s business failed not long after we moved. I ended up studying like crazy and got into engineering school. I guess I cleaned up okay.” He looked at her, his happiness undisguised. “When I saw this project and your name on it, I applied for a transfer immediately.”

“It’s really good to see you again, Lena.”

Lena smiled back, a genuine, relaxed smile.

Looking at him, she felt as if she had been transported back in time, to a world where her mother was still alive and she still knew how to laugh.

“So you’re an agricultural construction engineer now?” she asked.

“Chief consulting engineer,” he corrected, a hint of his childhood smugness in his smile. “Working for you, boss.”

After the meeting, they talked for a long time.

Logan was fascinated by her plans for the farm and offered several insightful suggestions.

His respect was immediate and unconditional, free of any preconceived notions, and it put Lena completely at ease.

As lunchtime approached, they were heading to the temporary cafeteria on the worksite.

But just as they stepped out of the prefab building, Lena’s new assistant, Molly, came running over.

“Lena! You have to come with me, quick! Oh my God, you will not believe what I just saw! A private plane just landed by the river! A man got out, and he’s handsome enough to be a movie star!”
