He Scorned Me, Now I’m a CEO He Can’t Afford Chapter 34

“How is Clara?” she asked calmly, as if inquiring about a stranger.

Hank snorted.

“How do you think? The Millers refused to settle and are pressing charges for the bull. Drunk driving, leaving the scene, false testimony… she’s in a world of trouble. And Davis revoked her exchange placement.”

Lena listened without emotion.

This was the outcome she’d expected the moment she called the police.

It wasn’t about revenge.

It was about consequences.

“And Caleb?” she asked after a pause, still unable to call him Dad.

The line was quiet for a moment.

“He’s aged ten years,” Hank sighed. “After Clara got into trouble, he ran around hiring lawyers, trying to bury it. But things aren’t like they used to be. Not everything can be fixed with money.”

Lena didn’t respond.

As if suddenly remembering something, Hank added, “By the way, has Wyatt contacted you?”

Wyatt.

The name was like an old needle prick against her heart.

It didn’t hurt anymore, just left a faint numbness.

“No,” she said lightly.

“That’s strange.” Hank sounded puzzled. “After you left, he was like a man possessed, asking everyone where you’d gone. When I wouldn’t tell him, he just kept calling. I think he got desperate. I saw him myself once, flying that little plane of his back and forth along the river, like he was searching for someone.”
