He Scorned Me, Now I’m a CEO He Can’t Afford Chapter 24

“Wyatt?” Clara’s voice trembled. “Why are you avoiding me? I thought we agreed that when you came back, we would—”

Wyatt looked at her, his eyes cold enough to burn.

“Why did you lie to me?”

Clara froze.

Before she could form an answer, Wyatt lunged forward, seizing her chin and forcing her head up.

His grip was so tight she gasped in pain.

“You told me Lena bullied you, that she made your life a living hell.” His voice was low, each word laced with fire. “But I’ve seen the evidence, Clara. The one who was ignored, the one who was hurt again and again, it was never you. It was Lena.”

When Wyatt had first met Lena, he hadn’t disliked her.

She was bright, direct, like the Texas sun at noon.

But Clara was always in his ear, crying about how Lena stole her things, ruined her favorite possessions, and embarrassed her in front of everyone.

She had taken every injury Lena suffered and twisted it into her own sob story.

And little by little, he had started to believe her.

He hated Lena’s boldness, mistaking it for selfishness.

He hated her freedom, thinking it meant she was reckless and improper.

Only now did he realize that everything had been a lie, right from the very beginning.

Lena’s frivolous act had been a shield.

And Clara’s gentle, harmless face had been the most convincing deception of all.
