He Said Of Course to Everything, and I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 08

“Once, there was a woman who loved a man so deeply that she would have given her life for him. They met, fell in love, and eventually got married.”

“But not long after they got married, the man told her his company had gone bankrupt, leaving him deeply in debt. Without hesitation, she gave him all her savings to help pay it off. It still wasn’t enough, so she gave up her dreams and moved overseas with a friend to earn more money

“That was the beginning of seven years spent apart. While the woman worked herself to exhaustion overseas, the man was enjoying life back home.”

“On the very day she left, he legally married her best friend. Over the next seven years, they even had two children together.”

“And the real kicker? When the woman finally came home, discovered the truth, and tried to

divorce him, she learned that her marriage certificate had been fake all along.”

The rest of the video was filled with photos and footage of Nolan and Sienna looking very much in

love.

The room erupted.

Reporters scrambled to point their cameras at the screens, capturing everything.

When Nolan finally recovered from his shock, he snatched the laptop, his eyes bloodshot, desperately trying to stop the video.

But the computer wouldn’t respond.

T

He rushed toward one of the screens, trying to block it from view.

Unfortunately for him, I’d helped choose the venue.

There were enormous screens everywhere.

There was no way he could hide what everyone was seeing.

Suddenly, Nolan turned toward me.

He hurried over, his voice shaking.

“You arranged all of this?”

“Lena, how could you do this to me? You’re going to ruin me!”

I finally looked at him, my expression cold.

“Then consider yourself ruined.”

I rose to my feet and spoke without raising my voice.

“Nolan, betrayal always comes at a price.‘

Nolan went rigid.

When he looked at me again, there was unmistakable terror in his eyes.

He remembered.

Years ago, his father had betrayed his mother and driven her to take her own life.

I’d rushed over that day and found Nolan holding his mother, his voice so hoarse he could barely speak.

“Lena, how can he not be afraid?”

“Betrayal always comes at a price.”

And yet, only a few years later, Nolan had become the very kind of man he’d once despised.

He suddenly grabbed my arm, his voice trembling.

“When did you find out?”

“The day you threw that party for your second child.”

“When… when did you decide to do this?”

“The moment you pushed me out of the house.”

Sienna suddenly stormed toward us, furious.

“So you knew all along? You’ve been plotting against us this whole time? Are you happy now that you’ve ruined everything for us? Lena, weren’t we best friends?”

I looked at her.

The woman standing before me was consumed by anger and resentment. There was nothing left of

the sincere girl I’d known when we were younger.

I gave a bitter, mocking laugh.

“All these years, I was the only one who never changed. I was the only one still holding on to what we used to have.”

Then I shook my head and said quietly, “You’re not my best friend.”

Sienna opened her mouth to argue, but Nolan pulled her away.

He stepped in front of me again and spoke slowly, choosing his words with care.

“What if I told you I’d lost my mind back then? Would you give me another chance?”

“After everything we’ve been through, I refuse to believe you don’t love me anymore.”

I lowered my gaze to my left leg and pointed at it.

“Do you know something?”

“Back then, my leg could still have been treated. The surgery would have cost fifty thousand

dollars.”

“I was going to tell you about it that day. But before I could, you told me your company had gone bankrupt and you were drowning in debt.”

“So I gave you all my money instead. And I lost my chance to get treatment for my leg.”

I struck my left leg hard with my fist and gave a faint, bitter laugh.

“See? I can’t feel a thing.”

“It’s as good as dead.”

I paused.

Then I looked up at Nolan, who was standing there in tears.

“So tell me. Do you really think I could still love you?”

I tilted my head back and took a deep breath.

“Nolan, I hate you.”
