He Said Of Course to Everything, and I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 06

Nolan flinched, staring at me in disbelief.

I took another bite of food and laughed softly.

“I’m actually glad we were never legally married. It makes leaving you that much easier.

His glass slipped from his hand and shattered on the floor, scattering shards around his feet

After a long moment, he forced a smile that was painful to watch.

“Lena, it’s… it’s not even April Fools‘ Day. What kind of joke is this?”

“Don’t joke about something like that again, okay?”

Then his attention shifted to the box beside me.

The moment he saw what was inside, his face lit up.

He seemed to relax almost immediately, looking visibly relieved.

“You’re talking about leaving me, but look at you. You’re still keeping the gifts I gave you right beside you. And you expect me to believe you don’t love me? After all these years, you’re still saying one thing and meaning another.”

“Come on, don’t be mad anymore. I’ll tell you everything, okay?”

I turned toward him, my patience wearing thin.

“Nolan, I know everything.”

But Nolan seemed not to hear me, or perhaps he simply didn’t want to.

Instead, he suddenly grabbed hold of me and began speaking in a rush.

“Lena, it’s not what you think.”

“Everything you saw when you came back was fake. Sienna and I were just putting on a show for her mother.”

“Not long ago, Sienna’s mother was diagnosed with a serious illness. She’s dying, and her biggest wish is to see her daughter get married.”

“Sienna’s your best friend. Of course I had to help her.

“And the baby at the party? Just a child actor we hired.”

“I told you years ago, didn’t I? I… I’m infertile.”

His eyes even began to redden as he continued.

“Lena, I know how hard you’ve had it overseas all these years. But your mom and I… we haven’t exactly had it easy back here, either.”

“We’ve been working nonstop, hoping we could all be together again sooner.”

“I’ve been putting in long hours for years, and I finally got Cross Group back on its feet. I was planning to tell you the good news, but you came home before I had the chance.”

Then his tone changed.

When he looked at me again, there was unmistakable accusation in his eyes.

“And another thing… what’s going on with Nolena Technologies?”

“Why have you never told me about it?”

I opened my mouth, ready to scoff, but his phone rang before I could say anything.

“What?”

“All right. I’ll be right there.”

After hanging up, he hesitated.

“Something urgent came up at work. We’ll talk about the rest when I get back.”

I said nothing.

Nolan sighed, looking increasingly put out.

Then he softened his voice and began coaxing me as though I were a difficult child.

“Come on.”

“Now that I’ve explained everything, can you stop being so unreasonable?”

I smiled.

Finally, I looked up at him and answered calmly.

“Sure.”

I’d show him which one of us was really being unreasonable.

Sure enough, when I went to the window, I spotted Sienna waiting by the curb, holding a child’s hand.

Nolan stepped outside with a smile and embraced the little boy who ran into his arms.

Watching them from behind, I took out my phone and snapped a picture without hesitation.

Then I opened my chat with my assistant.

Me: [Change the company name. We’re not calling it Nolena Technologies anymore.]
