He Said ‘Of Course’ to Every Insult About Me, I Said ‘Of Course’ to Walking Away Chapter 04

He Said ‘Of Course’ to Every Insult About Me, I Said ‘Of Course’ to Walking Away Chapter 04

Ethan was making threats, saying fine, none of us would sleep tonight.

Jack added with a sneer. “Didn’t Natalie say she’s running off with her precious brother? I’d love to see that.”

This time Ethan didn’t argue.

Clearly, he didn’t take my breakup seriously at all.

Fine.

I was leaving tomorrow anyway.

But when I checked my flight info, my phone froze, then endless notifications exploded on the screen.

I’d underestimated them.

It hit me out of nowhere.

They used the AI company’s tech to generate an avatar of me and posted an apology video to whitewash Naomi.

When I’d helped test the company’s product, I’d left my data behind.

Clueless netizens and Naomi’s fans swarmed my comments. Endless hate poured in.

It even reached my parents back in San Francisco.

The video got to them. I saw my normally composed dad, red-eyed with fury, arguing with strangers.

Mom’s heart condition flared up. She collapsed.

On the screen, Liam looked worried.

“How much longer?”

I clenched my white-knuckled hands, my lips trembling with rage.

“Soon.”

I looked down at the table, covered in all the evidence I’d gathered.

I’d dumped all the shares Ethan gave me at rock-bottom prices.

Naomi dragged Ethan in front of me.

“Natalie, Ethan says we should postpone the wedding. With your reputation right now… it’s bad for the company.”

Ethan pulled out a project file.

“Give this project you did to Naomi. Consider it an apology.”

I stared at the work I’d poured my heart into, frozen.

I’d pulled a month of all-nighters, even ended up in the hospital on an IV to finish it.

I’d been about to take it to Liam for a collaboration. How did Ethan get his hands on it?!

He waved the proposal. “Nicely done. Don’t know which hotshot you hired to write it.”

Naomi chimed in with a smile. “Well, thanks in advance. Good thing Ethan said he scraped your computer with the AI that day and found it. Otherwise, it would’ve gone to waste.”

“Who gave you permission to touch my computer?!”

Ethan just shrugged.

“Oh, come on, what’s the big deal? I’ve always used your computer whenever I want.”

He brushed it off and softened his tone.

“We’re not using your proposal for free.”

“You’ve been up all night, so you look like hell. Tomorrow, Naomi will get on stage and present this. We’ll set the record straight about you at the press conference. You two shake hands, make peace right there on the spot.”

“Then, with everyone watching, I’ll give you a grand confession and a wedding to make up for it. Sound good?”

Seeing him so smug and calculating made me sick.

He wanted to turn everything to his own advantage.

He wanted me to be part of his show, but I refused!

I sneered. “Sure. Just make sure it’s the most spectacular wedding ever.”

That night, I contacted my lawyer and sent over every piece of evidence.

Recordings, screenshots, videos—all of it.

Every last thing. I was going to expose their little clique for what they’d done.

Finally, I reached out to the girl they’d pushed out of the company.

As the sun rose the next day, Liam picked me up for the airport.

Sunlight streamed through the clouds. The press conference was about to begin.

Ethan scanned the room but couldn’t find me.

He swallowed his irritation and sent Naomi onstage to speak.

But the second the big screen lit up, the whole room exploded.
