He Said I Was Overreacting, I Said I Was Over Him Chapter 04

At the office, I went straight to the VP’s office and signed the relocation contract.

After that, I started preparing my handover materials.

A colleague who’d heard the news came over. “Mrs. Jones, relocating to France is a huge opportunity. Don’t forget us little people when you’re a big shot over there!”

I smiled. “I hope so.”

At that moment, my mom Tina called. “Anna, have you lost your mind? You’re about to get married and you’re breaking up with Lucas?”

I rubbed my weary eyes. “Mom, let me explain…”

“Explain what? Get home now! Lucas tried to kill himself, do you hear me?”

I held the phone, a chill creeping through me.

Lucas hadn’t changed any bit. Every time we couldn’t agree on something, he’d use self-harm to manipulate me.

When I got home, the whole place was in chaos.

Lucas was clutching his wrist, thrashing around. “I won’t go to the hospital! I need to wait for Anna to come back so I can apologize!”

Lucas’ mom Lily was crying, begging him. “You idiot! Is she really worth throwing your life away for?”

Lucas gritted his teeth. “If I can’t marry Anna, then what’s the point of living?”

Zoe turned and spotted me. She rushed over, frantic. “You’re finally here! Quick, make him go to the hospital. He’ll only listen to you!”

Lily turned to look at me, hatred flashing in her eyes.

My dad swung his hand and slapped me across the face. “It’s because Lucas spoiled you rotten!”

Lucas stepped in front of me. “Don’t hit her! It’s my fault. I messed up. That’s why she’s upset!”

My dad’s hand froze. He stood there breathing hard, glaring at me.

I pushed Lucas aside and glanced at his wrist, then at the blood-stained tissues on the coffee table.

“Is it deep?”

“Anna…”

“Do you need stitches?”

“No… not if you won’t forgive me…”

“Oh. Keep acting.”

Lily lunged at me, eyes red and wild. “How can you say that? My son cut his wrist for you! Do you have any conscience at all?”

Zoe held her up, her voice choked. “Anna, how did you become so cold? He was ready to die for you, and you still say things like that?”

My mom pulled me back a few steps, frowning. “Anna, you’re not an unreasonable person. What’s this really about?”

“It can’t actually be over a Mango Latte, can it?”

I closed my eyes and let out a bitter laugh. “Actually, yes. It is over a Mango Latte.”

Lucas’s eyes were full of confusion and hurt. “Anna, you said your stomach was acting up. I thought mango might make it worse.”

Zoe jumped in. “Right! Mango allergies are serious. Even a tiny bit would send me to the ER.”

My dad’s chest heaved with rage. He raised his hand to hit me again.

Zoe stepped in front of me, playing the loyal friend perfectly.

“Anna! If something’s wrong, just say it. Everyone’s here today. If Lucas really hurt you, we’ll all stand up for you.”

I looked at her in silence.

At that moment, I genuinely couldn’t figure out what she was thinking.

Then my phone buzzed. HR had sent over the relocation contract.

Zoe caught a glimpse of it, and her face changed completely. “You’re leaving? Relocating to France?”
