He Said I Was NOBODY, But Now He’s Begging For My Love Letter Chapter 10

I finally got in. 

When I opened the door, my eyes flicked to the air vent. 

It was empty. 

The light blue car air freshener I’d given him was gone. He’d 

probably thrown it away. 

I looked down, pretending I hadn’t seen it, and slid into the 

passenger seat. 

The door closed. The car was suffocatingly quiet. 

Elias didn’t drive right away. 

He held the wheel, staring ahead. 

“Where do you live?” 

I gave him my address. 

He nodded and started the car. 

I thought he was just giving me a ride. 

But he drove far past my building, into a quiet, tree–lined 

road. 

Streetlights passed one by one. 

Finally he spoke. 

“The day we argued at the restaurant was Elara’s birthday.” 

My fingers curled inward. 

“I still wanted to do something for her,” he said. He tapped the wheel gently, searching for words. 

“She said you’re her best bestie. Do you know what she wants but hasn’t bought? What she likes?” 

I stared at his profile, his strong brow line. 

His jaw was tight, his forehead furrowed. 

He was asking seriously. Truly trying to plan a late birthday 

for someone else. 

I tried to speak. 

My throat felt tight and sore. No words came out. 

I laughed bitterly, eyes stinging. 

I looked away so he wouldn’t see how hurt I was. 

“So that’s why you came to find me.” 

Elias went silent. 

The car hit the main road. City lights blurred past. 

I gripped my seatbelt. After a long pause, I said, “Elias.” 

“Hmm?” 

“I’ll pay you back every dollar of the seventy–three 

thousand.” 

His fingers tensed on the wheel. 

“Beyond that… there’s nothing left between us. We shouldn’t 

see each other again.” 

Saying it felt calmer than I expected. 

I knew I couldn’t keep going like this. 

I couldn’t search for signs he cared in every small move. 

I couldn’t let my heart race only to crush myself afterward. 

Even stand–ins have to leave the stage. 

Elias stayed quiet for a long time. When he finally opened his 

mouth, I opened the door and got out. 

Elias. 

Let’s really not meet again. 

The engine didn’t start behind me. I knew he was still there, 

watching. 

But I didn’t look back. It was the bravest thing I’d ever done.
