He Said He’d Marry Her, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 22

I called Mr. Whitmore.

After asking after him and Mrs. Whitmore, I carefully brought up the subject of the brooch.

“Mr. Whitmore, I was young and foolish. I made a lot of ridiculous scenes.”

“Looking back on it now, I just feel embarrassed and ashamed.”

“Since Ethan is engaged now,”

“I think it’s best to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings.”

Mr. Whitmore sighed on the other end of the line.

“Ava, you know I’ve always loved you. I’ve always spoiled you.”

“To be honest, I always hoped you would marry Ethan.”

“Mrs. Whitmore can’t even mention your name these days without crying.”

My heart ached.

But the pain was only because I knew how much they had truly loved me.

“Mr. Whitmore, you can’t force feelings.”

“You’ve been wronged, Ava.”

“No, I haven’t. I’ve thought it through. I’ve let it go.”

“I’ll get the brooch back for you.”

“In a few days, Mrs. Whitmore and I are coming to Chicago for a wedding.”

“I’ll give it to you then, in person.”

I thanked him and hung up.

The movers had arrived to ship the valuables.

The packed gift boxes were loaded onto the truck, one by one.

Soon, they would be delivered safely to Ethan.

In a few days, the Whitmores would be in Chicago.

Once that tanzanite brooch was back in my hands.

Those absurd, ridiculous memories from my youth would finally be over.
