He Said Don’t Wait, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 35

Later, lying in his arms in the quiet dark of our bedroom, I listened to the steady, powerful beat of his heart. It was an anchor, a promise, after years of being tossed on a turbulent sea.
“Are you okay?” Noah asked softly, his fingers tracing a line over my shoulder, as if to reassure himself that I was real.
“Mmm,” I murmured, a sound of pure contentment. “Better than okay.”
He kissed the top of my head. “I’ve dreamed about this my whole life.”
I tilted my head back, tracing the line of his jaw in the moonlight. “You really waited six years?”
“From the moment you ran toward me with that EpiPen in Savannah,” he confirmed, his voice rough with emotion. “I knew then.”
I snuggled closer, burying my face in his chest. “I’m glad I made that call.”
“So am I, Mrs. Caldwell,” he whispered, and the name, on his lips, finally sounded sacred. “So am I.”
But just as we were drifting off, my phone vibrated sharply on the nightstand. I reached for it, and the cold blue light illuminated my face, draining all the color from it.
