He Said Don’t Wait, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 34

I walked into the room and set the coffee down, standing beside his chair. “Thank you… for all of this.”
He didn’t answer, just reached out and took my hand. His palm was warm, sending a current of heat straight through me. “You never have to thank me, Maya,” he said, his gaze intense. “Protecting you is a privilege.”
His touch, his eyes… my heart hammered against my ribs. In the soft light of the study, the love he’d kept bottled up for six years felt tangible, a palpable force in the room.
“Noah…” My own voice was barely a whisper.
“Yes?” His was even lower, laced with a hopeful tension.
I took a breath, and finally said the words that had been forming in my heart.
“I want this to be a real marriage.”
He froze, his fingers tightening around mine. He searched my face, as if trying to determine if I was serious. “Are you sure, Maya?”
For my answer, I leaned down and kissed him.
It started gently, tentatively, but then a fuse was lit. Six years of pent-up longing exploded in that kiss, hot and deep and desperate. He pulled me onto his lap, and I could feel the tremor that ran through his powerful frame.
“Maya,” he breathed against my lips, a last-ditch effort at control. “We don’t have to—”
“I want to,” I cut him off, my fingers fumbling with the top button of his shirt. “I want you. Now.”
The last of his restraint shattered.
