He Said Don’t Wait, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 05

I remembered.
That chaotic night, crammed into a high school gymnasium, the air thick with dampness and fear. That song had played on a crackling radio all night long, a small, steady promise in the dark.
“You remember,” I whispered, my voice trembling unexpectedly.
“I remember everything about that day, Maya.” His hand tightened at my waist, drawing me closer until I could feel the steady rhythm of his heart against my own. “Every word. Every shared bottle of water. Every granola bar.”
Heat crept up my neck.
“Noah…”
“I know this is fast.” He lowered his head, his gaze as intense as if he were cross-examining a key witness. “I know we skipped… pretty much every step. But I need you to know, every word I said in that clerk’s office was the truth.”
His vow. That simple, steady “I do.”
I tilted my head back to meet his gaze. There was no trace of a joke, no hint of impulse.
“Mine too,” I said softly.
A spark ignited in his eyes, the look of a lawyer who just heard the verdict he’d been fighting for. “Really?”
