He Paid for the Wrong Heart Chapter 17

He Paid for the Wrong Heart Chapter 17

Half a month later, we got together.

Nolan made a special Instagram post about it.

There was no photo.

Just one simple sentence.

Nolan: [I have a girlfriend now.]

Not long after he posted it, his phone started buzzing nonstop.

He casually replied to a couple of messages, then put his phone down.

I, however, suddenly thought of the past.

“Is that old chatroom still around?”

Back then, Hayes had spent $15,000 in that group chat and ended up adding me by mistake.

Nolan froze.

After a long moment, he said in a muffled voice, “I left it a long time ago.”

“After I found out I’d accidentally passed him your QR code, I wanted to refund his money. He flatly

refused..”

“So later, I bought him a high-end watch to balance the ledger. These past two years, we haven’t really kept in touch much.”

His voice paused slightly.

“He’s been looking for you.”

From beginning to end, Nolan never said Hayes’s name.

But we both knew who he meant.

After thinking for a moment, I said, “When there’s a chance, I’ll make things clear with him.”

It had been almost a year since I last saw Hayes.

Back then, I had been avoiding him.

But now that I thought about it, there was no real need.

So what if he knew I had once had a crush on him?

it was already over.

I should face it.

I could not hide forever.

A few days later, I went to Ashford for a business trip.

Nolan came with me.

He had stayed in Harbor Point for so long that now that he was back, he had a mountain of things

waiting for him.

He had left a document with me.

I happened to be done with work, so I took it over to his place.

The day we returned to Ashford, he had added my fingerprint to his apartment lock.

When I went in, I realized he was in the shower.

I waited for a while.

Just then, someone knocked on the door.

It sounded like Nolan’s friends.

“That bastard slips back into town without a word. If my girlfriend hadn’t run into him this

morning, I wouldn’t even know he was back in Ashford.”

“Word is he brought a girl. No idea who this mysterious girl is, but she’s got Nolan completely

wrapped around her finger. I asked him her name, and he wouldn’t even say.”

I was still hesitating over whether I should open the door when Nolan came out of the bathroom.

He glanced toward the door.

“Stay here,” he said. “I’ll get rid of them.”

With that, he went straight to open it.

But before he could speak, I heard a familiar voice.

It was Hayes.

His voice was low.

There was no smile in it.

“Where’s the girl, Nolan? She’s here, isn’t she? We’ve been brothers for a decade You finally to down, and you’re hiding her from us?”
