He Only Wanted His Foster Sister, Yet Burned For Me Instead Chapter 12

He Only Wanted His Foster Sister, Yet Burned For Me Instead Chapter 12

By the time the police arrived, Hilary’s list of charges had grown to include unlawful

imprisonment.

Even as they walked through the door, she was still looking down her nose at me, delivering her final judgment:

“So what if I go in? My parents will pull a few strings and bail me out instantly. But look at you you sacrificed your entire academic career and your future. Are you completely stupid…?”

“I’ve already been accepted,” I interrupted flatly. “The Mathematics Department at Crestwood University. I got in through Early Decision.”

I tapped my phone screen, bringing up a saved photo.

“My official admission letter.”

The reality finally crashed down on Hilary. “You… you did this on purpose?!”

“You set this trap from the very beginning! Maeve Vance, you toxic bitch! You played the timid, innocent nerd, but you are more vicious than anyone!”

I offered a thin smile but gave her no answer.

The handcuffs clicked into place, and Hilary was dragged away.

I turned my calm, steady gaze back to Tristan.

“You remember everything now, don’t you?”

The rims of Tristan’s eyes were completely bloodshot. His hands shook violently as he reached out and pulled me tightly into his chest.

“I’m sorry, Maeve… I’m so sorry I came too late.”

Conditions back at the orphanage had been brutal; it was practically impossible for a newborn baby barely a month old to survive there. The director had fully intended to just let me die.

“You can’t… you can’t leave my little sister behind!”

“I’ll… I’ll share my biscuits with her.”

Back then, Tristan had been called just a toddler, barely over three years old.

He could barely form coherent sentences, yet he took on the entire responsibility of keeping me alive.

He learned how to change diapers and soaked hard biscuits in water just to feed me. He taught me basic math and how to recognize simple words.

The very first word that ever left my mouth wasn’t Mom or Dad. It was Brother.

The orphanage was tucked away on the freezing outskirts of the city without a shred of heating, making the harsh winters unbearable.

The memory burned deepest into my mind happened when I was six. I had been reckless on the

playground, falling off the slide straight onto an exposed rebar that impaled my thigh.

Bright red blood completely stained the white snow.

The nearest medical clinic was over two miles away. The director was out, and no one else knew

how to drive.

Tristan wrapped my bleeding body in a tattered woven mat and dragged me through the freezing

mud, foot by foot.

The agonizing pain made my vision blur into static. The only thing left in my field of vision was his two stick-thin legs, shaking violently from the sheer weight of pulling me.

Not long after my leg healed, my biological parents finally tracked me down and brought me back

home. I begged them on my knees to adopt Tristan too, but they refused.

In the middle of the night, I tried to climb over the estate wall to sneak back to the orphanage, only for my mother to catch me when she went downstairs for a glass of water.

The beating she gave me left me completely bedridden for two weeks.

As he relived the days when we had nothing but each other to survive, Tristan’s voice cracked, dissolving into thick, heavy sobs.

The livestream chat was bawling right along with him;

[Oh my god, so that’s where the second female lead’s leg weakness comes from! Sobbing, these two poor babies actually knew each other when they were that tiny.]

[The male lead lost his memories but the second female lead didn’t. She remembered everything, yet she just watched him from a distance all these years, never trying to disrupt his life.]

[I feel sick remembering how much I dragged the second female lead in the comments earlier Join literally a monster, ughhh.)

[This accidental online-dating mix-up literally forced the male lead into a position to be broken in

like a dog by her. This is the absolute power of fate!]

[? Why is everyone suddenly flipping the script without me? Just yesterday I said I shipped the second female lead and the male lead and y’all told me to go die.]
