He Married Her on Our Wedding Day Chapter 05

Adrian froze and blurted out,

“Moved out? When did Tessa say she was moving out?”

“Why didn’t she tell me?”

The landlord looked him up and down, then glanced at the flowers pinned to his chest.

“Oh. Judging by the way you’re dressed, you’re getting married today, aren’t you?”

“You two may be friends, but once you’re married, it’s probably better to keep some distance.”

“It’s normal that she didn’t tell you she was moving. She probably didn’t want your wife getting the wrong

idea.”

“Go take care of the wedding first. You can always contact her afterward.”

Adrian immediately grew anxious.

“I’m afraid if I wait until after the wedding, it’ll be too late.”

“Do you know where she went today?”

The landlord shook her head.

“I really don’t.”

“I only heard that she found a new job in another city and was moving there to start over.”

“That’s all I know.”

She pulled out her keys and stepped aside to let the new tenant in.

“Alright. Don’t just stand here.”

“Go to your wedding before you’re late.”

Adrian remained outside the apartment, completely stunned.

Just then, Celeste called.

“Adrian, the groomsmen are already downstairs waiting for you. Where are you?”

“We’re basically ready over here.”

Adrian’s voice came out hoarse.

“The wedding’s canceled.”

“Canceled?”

Celeste’s voice shot up.

“Why are you suddenly canceling it?”

“Adrian, did Tessa say something to you again? She’s just-”

Adrian hung up before she could finish.

He turned and hurried downstairs.

His car was still parked out front.

Several groomsmen were leaning against it, smoking as they waited for him.

One of them smiled when he saw Adrian coming.

“Mr. Vale, are we ready to go?”

Adrian waved them off and opened the car door.

“Go home.”

“The wedding’s off.”

Then he stepped on the gas and sped toward Baycrest International Airport.

He had no idea where I had gone.

All he could do was head to the airport and hope he might find me there.

He hoped my flight had been delayed by the hurricane conditions.

That I was still stuck in the terminal.

But Adrian searched the terminal for a long time without seeing me anywhere.

Meanwhile, Celeste kept waiting for him.

When he didn’t show up, she finally went to the airport herself.

She found Adrian standing in the terminal, staring blankly at the departure board.

Celeste rushed over and grabbed his arm, her voice anxious and hurt.

“Adrian, let’s go.”

“Tessa didn’t even tell you she was moving.”

“She clearly didn’t want you to know where she went.”

“If that’s the choice she made, why are you still looking for her?”

Adrian yanked his arm away and frowned, as if he couldn’t understand what she was saying.

“What do you mean, ‘that’s the choice she made’?”

“Haven’t I already told you?”

“She’s my girlfriend.”

“But I’m your wife!”

“We’re legally married!”

Celeste’s voice rose higher and higher, on the verge of tears.

“Adrian, after all these years, don’t tell me you never knew how I felt about you.”

“We’ve pretended to be a couple in public for years.”

“Now we even have a marriage certificate, and Tessa is gone.”

“So why can’t we just be together for real?”

Adrian looked at her as if the idea were ridiculous.

“You said it yourself. We were pretending.”

“That relationship was never real.”

“You can’t just swap one person for another and call it love.”

Celeste let out an angry laugh.

Then she shouted at him,

“And how serious were you ever about Tessa?”
