He Married Her on Our Wedding Day Chapter 04

“The wedding is just for Mr. Grant to see.”

“Celeste said that as soon as it’s over, the two of us will file for divorce.”

“Then I’ll finally be able to marry you properly.”

I shook my head, finding the whole thing ridiculous.

“Right away?”

“Yesterday, you said you’d file for divorce today. Now it’s suddenly after the wedding?”

“At this rate, are you two going to have a kid first?”

My tone clearly irritated Adrian.

His expression darkened.

“Tessa, can you just talk to me normally?”

“If I weren’t doing all this so I could marry you, why would I go through this much trouble?”

“I’ve done so much for you. Can’t you just do what I’m asking for once?”

Without waiting for my answer, he set the bag by the front door.

“Wear it.”

“You’re the bridesmaid tomorrow, so keep your emotions under control.”

“It’s hard to get a cab in this weather. I’ll swing by at eight in the morning and take you to the wedding venue.”

“Get up early. Don’t be late.”

Then Adrian turned and walked away.

I watched his retreating figure and suddenly understood something.

Maybe Adrian really did love me.

But he had never truly respected me.

I looked down at the bridesmaid dress by my feet.

And despite myself, I started crying.

Walking away from a five-year relationship hurt.

But there was no point in holding on anymore.

Adrian, every chance I gave you wasn’t because I was waiting for you to change.

I was waiting until I could finally let you go.

At seven-thirty the next morning, I left the bag with the bridesmaid dress outside my door.

I returned my key to the landlord as well.

She was bringing a new tenant by to see the apartment.

Before I left, I looked up at the sky.

The clouds were thin, and the wind had temporarily died down.

The morning after the hurricane was unusually calm.

But according to the National Weather Service, another, stronger hurricane was moving in.

I had to go.

At exactly eight that morning, my flight took off from Baycrest.

At the same time, Adrian’s car pulled up outside my apartment building.

The moment he stepped out of the elevator, he saw the untouched bag sitting by my door.

His face immediately darkened.

He strode over and pounded on the door.

“Tessa, open up!”

“I’m getting married today. I don’t have time for you to make a scene.”

“Put on the bridesmaid dress. I’m here to take you to the wedding venue.”

There was no response from inside.

Adrian instinctively reached for his phone and tried to call me.

My phone was already off.

His frustration boiled over, and he pounded on the door even harder.

“Tessa!”

“If you keep this up, I really don’t have time to keep arguing with you.”

“Can’t you just stop making such a big deal out of this?”

“It’s only a ceremony.”

“I don’t have time to stand here waiting for you.”

“Open the door!”

Just then, the landlord stepped out of the elevator with a new tenant.

When she saw Adrian pounding on the door, she hurried over to stop him.

“What are you doing?”

“There’s no one inside.”

“You’ve been banging on the door this early in the morning. You’re going to wake the neighbors.”

Adrian froze.

“No one?”

“How is that possible?”

“Tessa was still living here last night.”

The landlord seemed to realize who he was talking about.

She gave Adrian a strange look.

“Oh. You mean Tessa.”

“You didn’t know?”

“She moved out.”

“She’s probably already on a plane by now.”
