He Loves The Ancient Soul In My Body Chapter 06

Charlotte wiped her tears and nodded.

“I think so. The court mage said the seven-star conjunction happened at exactly the right time. We

would take our own bodies to the other world.”

Charlotte paused, then remembered something. She pulled a small bronze mirror out of her sleeve

and looked at herself.

After looking, she smiled anyway. “Good. This really is my face.”

She looked up at Christopher, her eyes bright. “Christopher, I finally get to see you with my own face. Are you happy?”

Christopher was silent.

Happy? The corner of his mouth twitched. He tried to smile, but the muscles in his face wouldn’t

cooperate.

When Charlotte saw his expression, tears welled up again. “You really do think I’m ugly!”

“I don’t,” Christopher said quickly. “I’m just… surprised.”

He was surprised. For five years in the Kingdom of Eldoria, Charlotte Fairchild, Duchess of Crestwood, was famous for her talent, she excelled at piano, painting, and poetry, and suitors lined

up at her door.

He thought with all that talent, she must at least be average looking.

He didn’t realize fate had a sense of humor. It gave her all that talent and took away her looks.

She couldn’t even hold a candle to Emily.

Christopher felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water on him, cold from head to toe.

But his mouth kept trying to comfort her. “Charlotte, don’t overthink it. Come home with me first.

We’ll talk it over.”

Charlotte followed him home excitedly.

She chattered nonstop the whole way.

“Christopher, you have no idea how much I sacrificed for you.”

“For you, I stayed pure. I even broke off my engagement. William Ashford was the royal tutor, so elegant and refined. But in my eyes, no man could ever compare to you.”

It was the sweetest confession from a young girl.

If those words had come out of Emily’s face, Christopher probably would have melted into a puddle

of goo right now.

But looking at that face, Christopher suddenly didn’t know what to say anymore.

He dropped his gaze and stared at the floor. “Go take a shower first. I’ll find you some clothes to change into.”

Charlotte nodded obediently. “Okay.”

Christopher went to the bedroom to look through Emily’s clothes. When he opened the closet, everything was neatly hung inside, and there was even a faint, pleasant scent.

He froze for a second.

She had only just left, and he already missed her?

No, why would I miss her?

He had been waiting for Charlotte, and she was here now. He should be happy.

Christopher shook his head, grabbed a casual outfit and handed it to Charlotte, then he showed her

how to use the shower.

Charlotte paid close attention, but once she got inside the bathroom, everything fell apart, the water was too hot or too cold, and she nearly slipped and fell.

Christopher stood outside the door, listening to the commotion, and closed his eyes.

When Charlotte finally came out of the shower, she was wearing Emily’s clothes with water droplets still on her face.

The clothes were a little big on her, swallowing her thin frame.

Christopher glanced at her, then looked away.

Charlotte in Emily’s clothes just made him think one thing: These clothes didn’t look right on her.

Emily would have looked beautiful in them, they would have hugged her waist and made her skin

look fair.

But Charlotte…

He closed his eyes and shut down the thought.

That night, Christopher cooked dinner.

When he was busy in the kitchen, Charlotte came in to help.

She knocked over the chopped green onions he had just prepped, burned the pot of oil, and turned

the whole kitchen into a smoky disaster.

Christopher held back his temper and cleaned up the mess while Charlotte stood to the side,

completely helpless, her eyes turning red again.

“Christopher, I’m so sorry. I can’t do anything right.”

“It’s fine,” Christopher said, exhaustion washing over him. He forced out four words. “Just go wait

outside.”

If Emily were here, she would never cause this much trouble.

Before, when she had Emily’s face, even clumsy moves like this would have been cute. They would

have made him want to protect her.

But looking at the freckled face in front of him, Christopher just felt sick to his stomach, irritated.

Charlotte lowered her head and walked out, and she sat on the couch like a child who had done

something wrong.

When he brought out the food, she picked up her fork, took one bite, and started crying. “This is so good. It’s even better than the palace chefs’ cooking.”

Christopher watched her cry and wolf down the food. His feelings were all over the place.

He suddenly remembered the first time Emily ate his cooking.

They had just gotten married when he went into the kitchen and grilled a steak, but he grilled it too

long.

Emily took a bite and smiled. “Honey, this steak has a lot of character.”

She never told him his cooking was bad, but she never exaggerated like Charlotte either.

After dinner, Charlotte offered to wash the dishes and broke two plates.

Christopher sighed and said forget it, just leave them. He would call a cleaner tomorrow.

Charlotte apologized again, tears streaming down her face.

Christopher couldn’t stand a crying woman, so he quickly comforted her and told her to get some

sleep.

He put her in the guest room and made the bed.

Charlotte stood at the door of the guest room, looking at him with hopeful eyes. “Christopher,

aren’t we going to sleep together? Back in Eldoria, husbands and wives shared a bed.”

Christopher stiffened. “Here… we’re not married yet. So it wouldn’t be appropriate.”

Charlotte suddenly leaned in close. “You’re lying.”

“When I was in Emily’s body, you couldn’t keep your hands off me.”
