He Loved My Fake Self Chapter 11

He Loved My Fake Self Chapter 11

Kyle Reed was nothing like Peyton.

He always had that lazy, half-interested smirk. But underneath it, there was a wall. Something untouchable His eyes held this arrogant, restless fire-like he didn’t answer to anyone.

Except the second he saw me, he flipped. Suddenly he was standing at attention like a kid who’d been caught misbehaving.

“Clo, can I call you that? Don’t get the wrong idea-I’m-m just really bad with names. You don’t mind, right?”

“Clo, hurry up. I know you love the honey-glazed chicken from this station and never have time to wait in line.

I grabbed some.”

“Clo, you’ve been grinding with those clubs lately. I happened to have an extra concert ticket. Your favorite

artist. Do me a favor and help me use it?”

But Kyle was too flashy. Too stupidly good-looking. Every time he waited for me, girls hit on him.

I’d put my head down and try to sneak past.

He’d catch me every single time.

“No, I don’t have a phone. No, I don’t have social media either,” he’d tell them flatly. Then, dragging out the syllables like a whine. “Clo-You’re finally out of class!”

I was a total introvert. The attention made me want to crawl out of my skin.

Eventually, I learned to speed-walk straight to him just so he wouldn’t yell my name and make everyone stare.

Somewhere along the way, things got fun.

I realized I didn’t have to overthink every conversation or Google conversation starters just to keep someone

talking. Kyle just liked me. Plain and simple.

And in all that golden, sun-soaked time, I forgot about Peyton.

Until the hundred-day anniversary.

Jolene and Peyton invited us both.
