He Locked Me In A Closet, So I Destroyed His Empire Chapter 03

Chloe waited for a moment, and when I didn’t respond, her tone immediately hardened.

“Summer, do you still think you’re in a position to look down on us?”

The chat immediately echoed her sentiment.

[Seriously, the host is literally throwing her a bone and she’s still acting like she’s above everyone!]

[Make her bow! Make her scream it!]

[One hundred times! She says it a hundred times or she stays inside!]

Chloe glanced at the screen and let out a sharp laugh.

“Don’t worry, everyone. I bet our resident heiress is just waiting for Weston to swoop in and rescue her.”

She turned toward the hallway, her voice instantly dropping into a sweet, manipulative whine.

“Weston, look at her. She doesn’t feel a single shred of remorse.”

Weston’s voice cut through the heavy door, this time laced with an undeniable edge of irritation.

“Summer, what the hell are you being so stubborn for? Just apologize so we can all go home.”

My fingers gripped the iron bars of the ventilation window, knuckles white. I fought the overwhelming urge to collapse into the garbage pile beneath me.

Right then, someone in the live stream chat managed to unearth my background, plastering the details across the screen in rapid succession.

[Wait, I think I just found her actual profile…]

[Summer Sterling, graduate of Oakridge Prep. No parents listed. Her grandmother was the only one who ever showed up for parent-teacher conferences.]

[She transferred schools multiple times, never staying anywhere for more than a couple of terms. What kind of decent person comes from a background like that?]

[I found an old photo from high school too! She looks incredibly fake and manipulative. Check out my main profile page, guys, go look!]

The comment section went quiet for a moment as users clicked away.

When they returned, the vitriol reached a fever pitch.

[You can tell just by looking at her face that she’s bad news!]

[Yeah, look at those cold eyes. That’s definitely the face of a sociopathic bully.]

[No wonder she doesn’t have parents. It’s called karma.]

I stared fixedly at that last comment, biting my lip so hard the metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.

Chloe’s voice chimed in perfectly on cue.

“Wow, so the great Miss Sterling grew up without parents? No wonder. Raised by the streets, with absolutely no manners or decency.”

I braced myself against the damp wall, forcing myself to take slow, deliberate breaths.

This time, I didn’t bother addressing Weston. I directed my voice straight at Chloe.

“You keep claiming I bullied you,” I said, my voice cutting through the noise. “Where is the proof?”

Chloe visibly hesitated outside the door. “What?”

“Give me dates. Locations. Names. A single witness, or a single shred of proof.”

I had to pause to take two sharp, ragged breaths.

My physical limits were fast approaching, but looking down at the digital countdown ticking away on my watch, I clamped my teeth together and ordered myself to hold on.

After a brief, tense silence, Chloe stammered out a defense.

“It’s been years! Who the hell remembers every tiny detail like that? Besides, you were smart back then—you think you’d leave a paper trail for the terrible things you did?”

A cold smile touched my lips.

“So you have absolutely nothing,” I choked out, my voice fading into a hoarse whisper. “No evidence whatsoever, yet you lock me in a closet, take the law into your own hands, and subject me to a nationwide public execution.”

A flash of panic crossed Chloe’s face through the window, but she quickly suppressed it.

“I am the victim! I don’t need a paper trail to know what happened to me! And besides, I wasn’t the only one you terrorized back then—”

“Then where are the others?”

Chloe’s pitch spiked defensively.

“I’m not a corporate shark like you, Summer! I don’t know how to play the victim or twist people’s words! But the fact that you fake your illness is an indisputable fact. I’ve seen your medical files. You went to get a pre-nup physical because you were desperate to marry Weston, remember?”

I had indeed gone for a medical examination, but there was absolutely no way that confidential report should have ever ended up in her hands.

Before I could voice a rebuttal, my knees buckled completely, sending me crashing hard onto the debris-covered floor.

The side of my head slammed violently against the concrete corner, and a deafening ringing sound instantly drowned out the rest of the world.
