He Left Me in the Rain for My Best Friend Chapter 05

He Left Me in the Rain for My Best Friend Chapter 05

“I’m sorry. I didn’t think it would turn out like this…”

I only stared at him.

Didn’t think.

I didn’t think so either.

I didn’t think they would move that fast.

I didn’t think their hearts could be that cruel.

I didn’t think life could be that fragile.

Why had such a tiny possibility fallen on my mother?

She hadn’t even seen my college acceptance letter yet.

I hated them.

But I hated myself even more.

Why did I have to like Caleb Sterling?

Why did I have to confess to him?

Like he had demanded, why did I have to make a scene when I had endured for so long?

Why did I hesitate at home for so long before leaving?

Those regrets were like countless insects, chewing through my heart.

“Elena, I’m sorry…”

Caleb reached for me carefully, trembling as he hugged me.

He kept repeating those words.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry…”

I saw Ivy Harper step out of the elevator.

Fighting back disgust and hatred, I lifted my arms and hugged Caleb back.

Slowly, I tightened my grip.

He felt it and immediately held me tighter.

“Elena… can you cry? Please?”

I looked at Ivy Harper and said to Caleb, “I don’t have any family left. I only have you now.”

He nodded frantically.

“Yes. You still have me. You have me. I’ll take care of you for the rest of my life. I’ll spend my whole life making it up to you and your mother.”

I smiled.

“Then when we’re legally old enough, let’s get married right away, okay?”

“Okay. We’ll get married.”

Ivy Harper’s expression grew stiffer and stiffer.

Then Caleb promised me.

“We won’t fight over Ivy Harper anymore. I’ll never see her again. I won’t have any contact with her.”

Her eyes overflowed with unwillingness and hatred.

This time, I was the one who gave a victorious smile.

But I didn’t feel good at all.

Ivy clenched her fists and silently turned away.

I pushed Caleb away.

There were still many things I had to handle.

Caleb said he had already called his parents, and they would come help me.

I refused.

“No. This is my family’s business. I’ll handle it myself.”

But his parents came anyway and spoke to me.

First, they expressed regret and pity.

They said they felt sorry for me.

Then they said they would help give my mother a dignified funeral.

Finally, they hinted that they accepted me and Caleb being together.

From now on, we would be family.

But if I insisted on calling the police, the only thing I would hurt was my relationship with Caleb.

There was no evidence proving my mother’s accident had anything to do with Caleb.

The woman who caused the trouble had already boarded an international flight.

“Elena, a mother’s greatest wish is for her child to live well. She’d be willing to pay any price for that.”

Mrs. Sterling’s words carried more than one meaning.

Caleb suddenly slammed the door open and rushed in.

“Dad. Mom. What do you mean? Why are you threatening Elena?”

Then he turned to me.

“Elena, if you don’t want to forgive me, I’ll turn myself in right now. I was furious and impulsive, so I found someone to cause trouble at your mother’s food truck. I indirectly caused her death. I’m the murderer.”

A sharp slap landed across his face.

His mother’s voice cut through the room.

“Shut up.”

That sentence was also meant for me.
