He Introduced Me to a Lover, and My First Love Walked In Chapter 06

Her usual timid, doe-eyed expression was gone. Her eyes were completely vacant.

She got off the bed and walked straight toward the balcony as if she were following a command.

She threw open the window and started climbing out.

Julian’s composure shattered.

“Chloe!”

He lunged forward, caught her around the waist, and hauled her back into his arms.

Chloe fought him desperately, and Julian could barely hold on to her.

He shouted for the household staff and the security guards outside. It took all of them together to restrain

her.

In the chaos, someone knocked a drinking glass off the table. It shattered, sending pieces skidding across

the floor near Chloe.

She grabbed a shard and immediately slashed toward her throat.

Julian was the only one who reacted fast enough. He threw up his arm to block her.

The glass sliced into his wrist, deep enough to expose bone. Blood sprayed everywhere as the entire Prescott household erupted into chaos.

In the middle of it all, Evan quietly stepped up beside me.

He took my hand and laced his fingers through mine.

Then he winked at me and murmured, “Sweetheart, let’s run.”

He pulled me with him, and we raced for the front doors.

Julian’s furious voice rang out behind us.

“You’ll regret this! Audrey isn’t just unfaithful-she lies about everything! Take her if you want. One day, you’ll bring her back yourself!”

Evan didn’t even break stride.

By the time I found myself sitting in Evan’s house with a warm mug cradled in my hands, I still felt dazed.

I had no idea how any of this had happened.

Evan sat beside me and lightly poked my cheek with one finger.

“Sweetheart, what are you thinking about?”

I looked at him, my emotions tangled together.

“Evan… why aren’t you asking what Julian meant by all that?”

His finger stilled.

Then he rested an elbow on his knee, propped his head on one hand, and looked up at me.

I couldn’t tell what that look meant, and it made me nervous.

“W-What?”

Evan gave me a faint smile.

“I thought you’d ask why I showed up at Julian’s house. Or why I got you out of there the way I did.”

“Sweetheart, I’m the one with all the secrets.”

Once again, I had no idea what to say.

I lowered my head and gripped the mug so tightly that my knuckles went white.

Evan’s expression darkened where I couldn’t see it.

“Julian really did a number on you.”

Before I could figure out exactly what he meant, he changed the subject.

“Aren’t you curious how I ended up posing as the Georgetown freshman who had been named a U.S.

Presidential Scholar?”

Of course I was curious.

I nodded.

Evan smiled.

“The Georgetown freshman who had been named a U.S. Presidential Scholar is a low-income student supported by the Ashford Foundation. Not long after he started school, he got a message from Julian.”

“Julian offered him seventy-five grand just to come to the Prescott house.”

“He’s young, and he was worried it might be a scam, so he contacted the foundation coordinator assigned to him. The coordinator saw Julian’s name and reported it to me. So I posed as that freshman and came in his

place.”

Then Evan touched his face and slipped into a playfully aggrieved tone.

“Sweetheart, you have no idea what I went through to pass for a college boy. I even got Skinvive injections and Ultherapy. I dropped about fifteen pounds, too. I barely have any muscle left. Don’t believe me? Feel for

yourself.”

He caught my hand and started pulling it toward the hem of his shirt.

I swallowed hard.

It took every ounce of willpower I had to pull my hand free and drag the conversation back to something safer.

“Why did you come to Julian’s house?”
