He Introduced Me to a Lover, and My First Love Walked In Chapter 05

Evan smiled.

But his smile was nothing like Julian’s.

Julian always smiled with some degree of mockery or amusement. Evan’s smile barely touched his lips and

never reached his dark eyes. There was something unsettling about it.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Prescott. Chloe’s fine. She’s just asleep.”

Anger flashed in Julian’s eyes. “Answer me. Who the hell are you?”

“Easy, Mr. Prescott.” Evan gently stroked Chloe’s hair. “If you get too worked up, I can’t promise she’ll be okay

when she wakes up.”

Julian’s chest rose sharply. Through clenched teeth, he asked, “What do you want?”

Evan didn’t answer. Instead, he looked at me.

When he saw the worry on my face, he gave me a small wink.

“Don’t worry, sweetheart. I didn’t do anything bad. I just hypnotized Chloe so she could get a good night’s

sleep.”

Only then did he calmly answer Julian’s question.

“I want you to divorce Audrey.”

“Not a chance!” Julian shot back.

I lowered my eyes.

I wasn’t the kind of woman who could swallow that kind of betrayal and keep playing the dutiful wife. The first time I caught Julian cheating, I asked for a divorce.

He refused.

I told him it didn’t matter. If he wouldn’t agree, I’d file anyway.

Julian had laughed like I’d said something hilarious.

At the time, I hadn’t understood what was so funny.

Later, I realized he’d been laughing at how naive I was.

The Prescott family had Bayhaven practically under its thumb.

Julian didn’t even have to give an order. There were always people eager to anticipate what he wanted and do

it for him.

Not a single lawyer in Bayhaven would take my divorce case.

I cried. I screamed. I fought him every way I knew how.

Every time, Julian simply watched me unravel with cold amusement, as though my desperation were some private comedy staged for his entertainment.

I tried to run, too.

My airline reservations would be canceled just as I was checking in.

Any train ticket I booked would be canceled before I could board.

Whenever I tried leaving by car, Julian would already be waiting at the toll plaza outside Bayhaven.

I refused to give up. I tried slipping out on back roads through the countryside.

That only got me caught faster.

No matter what I did, I couldn’t escape Julian.

Once, I begged him to let me go.

Julian gripped my chin and gently wiped away my tears.

“A woman as unfaithful as you deserves to spend the rest of her life being tormented by a bastard like me.”

I’d given up on ever leaving him a long time ago.

I parted my lips, wanting to tell Evan to stop and quit going up against Julian.

Before I could speak, Evan said, “Julian, all I have to do is snap my fingers and Chloe will wake up.

“Then, fully conscious, she’ll try to kill herself by jumping from an upper floor. She’ll die, and so will the baby.”

“Do you want your mistress and your child dead?”

Faced with such a blatant threat, Julian didn’t even flinch.

“Whatever. I can find another mistress. I can have another child. Chloe is replaceable.”

Evan’s expression didn’t change either.

He snapped his fingers.

Chloe’s eyes flew open.
