He Gave Me a Divorce, I Gave Him Ruin Chapter 15

I had just pointed to a notation in an ancient Greek text, explaining a subtle translation error to Lucas, when the café door was shoved open.

The bell above the door jangled violently.

Ethan Sterling stood in the doorway.

His expensive cashmere coat was a mess of wrinkles, and his eyes were bloodshot. He looked like a wire pulled too tight.

He strode directly toward our table.

“Amelia.” His voice was hoarse. His gaze locked on me, then swept over Lucas. “Aren’t you going to introduce me?”

I set down my latte. The last trace of my smile vanished.

“Lucas,” I said calmly, “this is Ethan Sterling. A former business partner with whom I no longer have any association.”

Ethan’s face grew even darker.

He stared at Lucas’s young, open face, his mouth twisting into a cold sneer.

“Business partner? You move fast, Amelia. Already found a replacement?”

Lucas, clearly missing the venom in his tone, just looked at me in confusion.

I ignored Ethan completely.

When I offered no explanation, Lucas could only respond with his own understanding of the situation. He gave Ethan a bright, friendly smile.

“Yes, sir! I’m Amelia’s new friend.”

“Shut up!” Ethan exploded, taking a threatening step forward and grabbing for my wrist. “You think this is a joke? Come back to New York with me! You have to explain everything to the trust committee!”

I jerked back, pulling my arm out of his reach.

My voice was ice.

“Ethan, don’t touch me. Or I’ll have my lawyer sue you for harassment.”
