He Gave Me a Divorce, I Gave Him Ruin Chapter 14

Public opinion turned on a dime.

Chloe’s Instagram comments were now a cesspool of abuse.

“Wait, so while the wife was burying her father, this woman was vacationing in Miami on the husband’s dime and sending selfies to rub it in her face?”

“I’m actually disgusted. She’s just a professional mistress, and she had us all believing she was some kind of independent woman.”

“I feel so bad for Amelia. Her husband cheated, her father died, and she had to deal with this.”

“Ethan Sterling is no better. Trash belongs with trash.”

“All of Chloe’s fans owe Amelia an apology!”

None of it had anything to do with me anymore.

I hired an assistant to help me sort through the endless academic materials and books my father had left behind.

His name was Lucas, a doctoral student in the classics department. He was in his early twenties, with blond hair, a few freckles across his nose, and a bright, easy smile.

Sometimes he would hold up a heavy ancient Greek manuscript and frown at one of my father’s annotations. Then he would look up at me with clear blue eyes.

“Amelia, can I buy you a coffee? Consider it… payment for an academic consultation?”

Looking at the earnest, slightly mischievous expression on his face, I couldn’t help but smile.

But I never expected that in the corner coffee shop of our quiet college town, just as I lifted my latte to my lips, I would see him through the window: a man with red-rimmed eyes and a thunderous expression, standing right across the street.

Ethan.
