He Gave Me a Beaded Toy Car and Bought Her a Luxury Car Chapter 10

“Babe, I know I messed up. I shouldn’t have said those things. Please come back and help me.”

“Come back and you can have anything you want.”

“I already kicked Faye out of the company. Please come back. You’re all I have left.”

Between his sobs, I pieced together what happened. He’d discovered Faye had been falsifying records and embezzling funds. The company was hemorrhaging money. Several projects she’d handled had fallen apart. Clients were suing for breach of contract, demanding double damages. He was facing multiple lawsuits and massive payouts.

“I should’ve listened to you. I shouldn’t have enabled Faye. I never thought she’d use my sympathy against

me.”

“Babe, I regret everything. Please come back and help me. Help the company.”

His crying was almost pretty.

I stayed calm. “I warned you. Her record was for financial crimes. You didn’t believe me. What’s happening

now is on you.”

“But you have a stake in the company too! Are you really going to watch it burn?!” His voice cracked with

disbelief.

“I have a stake? So what. I can afford the loss.”

He’d always used my shares to threaten me. To force me into submission. But my actual stake was only

three percent. If it went up in smoke, so be it.

“And we’re divorced. Stop calling me ‘babe.’ It makes me sick.”

I hung up.

The next morning, Tristan showed up outside my office. I ignored him. He didn’t have much patience. He gave up after three days. But then he came back. For an entire week, he stood outside my building. My team

wanted to chase him off. I didn’t stop them.

The lawsuits against his company were already in court. Once he lost, he’d face massive penalties. The

company he was so proud of would never go public.

After my team told him off, Tristan stopped showing up.

A month later, his company entered forced liquidation. His properties were seized. During the asset audit, they discovered half his holdings had been stolen by Faye. Fake deeds. Fake documents. She’d even sold the

Cullinan he’d given her.

He sat on the steps of his empty house and cried all night.

I heard about it after closing a major deal for Meridian. The profit wasn’t huge, but the experience was

invaluable. My team and I were thriving without restrictions. We’d made a name for ourselves at the new

company in record time.

The truth was, life without Tristan just kept getting better.

At the celebration dinner, someone mentioned Tristan had disappeared. No one knew where he’d gone. I didn’t care to find out. I was already thinking about my next deal.

The past was the past. Let it go. My future was just getting started.
