He Gave Me a Beaded Toy Car and Bought Her a Luxury Car Chapter 09

Tristan pressed against my back and sobbed.

“Babe, why are you divorcing me?”

“We were so good together. Why don’t you want me anymore?”

He paused, his voice muffled.

“If this is about Faye, I’ll transfer her to another department. I’ll keep my distance.”

“If it’s about the car, I’ll buy you one right now.”

He shoved a car key into my hand. The Rolls-Royce. The one he’d given Faye.

“Eight years of marriage. I don’t believe you’d actually throw it all away.”

I took a deep breath and pried his hands off me.

It was because I valued this relationship that I’d put up with his favoritism toward Faye for so long. But I was

a person. With blood and flesh. A person who cried and hurt.

No matter how much I compromised and endured, he’d shattered my heart into a thousand pieces.

“It’s not about any of that. I’m just tired. I want my life back.”

He tried to kiss me. I pulled away and walked out.

Moments later, I heard more things breaking inside.

After that day, Tristan kept messaging me. Always the same thing. Bragging about how Faye had taken over my position. How the company was running smoothly. How business was booming.

His version of events? “The company runs fine without you.”

I didn’t respond to any of it.

Then I saw Faye’s post about landing a major project. That’s when I knew. Tristan’s reckoning had arrived.

The client was a notorious bottom-feeder. He’d approached me first, trying to throw money at a deal. I’d

refused.

Somehow, after circling around, Faye ended up in talks with him. If Tristan knew Faye was about to hand this guy money for nothing, he’d lose his mind.

My phone buzzed. A message from Tristan. Photos of him and Faye out at dinner. He was trying to make me

jealous.

Nice try. Back when I still loved him, it would’ve worked. But I didn’t love him anymore. These little games

meant nothing to me.

I closed the thread and got back to work. I had a reputation to build at my new company.

A week later, I was walking out of a client meeting when one of my team members rushed over.

“Boss, Faye messed up big time. That deal she closed? It was a trap. Five million down the drain. Mr. Hale hasn’t come out of his office all day.”

He showed me a video. Faye stood outside Tristan’s office, crying and apologizing. Papers scattered at her

feet.

The others gathered around. “Boss, you’re not feeling sorry for them, are you? They brought this on

themselves.”

I smiled. “Relax. I’m not making that mistake twice.”

“Instead of gossiping, how about you find out what our new client likes? I want it on my desk by end of day.”

The mention of work sent everyone scattering. I wasn’t going to waste energy on something I’d already predicted. I’d rather close more deals and sharpen my skills.

The next time I heard about Tristan was after our department’s victory dinner. My team was buzzing about it. Tristan had fired Faye and posted an opening for a director position.

“He’s probably regretting everything now. But it’s too late. Our boss is never going back.”

“Faye couldn’t hold a candle to you, boss. Tristan was blind. Serves him right.”

I shook my head and smiled. I figured that would be the last I’d hear from Tristan.

That night, he called.
