He Gave His Password To Her And Lost His Future Chapter 10

Julian stood awkwardly at the entrance.

Even Serena looked surprised before finally waving him in.

“Uh… I’m not interrupting anything, right?” he asked quietly as he sat near the window. “I saw people talking about the reunion in the group chat, so… I kinda invited myself.”

“Of course not,” Serena replied warmly. “You’re our classmate. We’re glad you came.”

I was sitting directly across from him, and the moment I looked up, I realized something was wrong.

He had lost a shocking amount of weight in just a few months.

Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and the whites were streaked with red from exhaustion.

“Vivienne, tell us about MIT,” Serena said eagerly. “Give us something to envy.”

I took a sip of my cocktail and started talking.

About professors whose names appeared on Nobel Prize nomination lists.

About the insane research projects happening in the labs.

About Boston’s elite social scene.

About how every single day on campus felt full and exciting.

Everyone listened with shining eyes, gasping every now and then.

But the most intense gaze came from Julian.

He rested his chin against his hand, smiling faintly as he watched me without blinking.

Finally, I laughed and asked, “Okay, your turn. What’s everyone else been up to?”

The room instantly erupted into overlapping conversations.

Everyone talked except Julian.

His entire life revolved around practice tests, rewriting application essays, and obsessively checking college rankings.

Over and over.

Day after day.

“Come on, Julian, you’ve got this. MIT’s acceptance letter is yours next year.”

“Seriously. Your SAT score was basically perfect before. You’ll bounce back easy.”

Julian forced out a weak smile.

He kept picking at his fingers nervously, licking his dry lips without saying a word.

The reunion lasted until late into the night.

I’d had a few drinks. My mind was still clear, but my steps had started to wobble as I grabbed my purse and headed outside.

Julian followed behind me the entire time.

Not too close.

Not too far.

Under the streetlights, our shadows stretched long across the pavement until they overlapped.

Finally, I stopped walking and turned around.

“Do you need something?” I asked.
