He Gave His Password To Her And Lost His Future Chapter 09

The September wind carried the restless edge of early fall.

Dragging my suitcase behind me, I stepped onto MIT’s campus for the first time as a student.

When I was little, my mom used to bring me to Massachusetts every summer. Every single trip included a walk around MIT.

“Sweetheart, wanna go to school here someday?”

“Yes!” little me would answer instantly. “And Julian’s coming with me!”

I remembered the glittering water of the Charles River and how I used to imagine standing there beside him, watching the rowing teams glide past in the sunset.

I remembered the shadows stretching across Killian Court and the way I dreamed about sitting with him beneath the Great Dome.

Back then, I planted that dream deep in my heart and watched it grow year after year until it became the future I wanted more than anything.

I never imagined there would come a day when Julian disappeared from my life.

We had existed beside each other for so long that it felt natural.

Like water.

Like oxygen.

Nothing dramatic. Just impossible to live without.

And yet, I had forced him out of my world.

After a withdrawal period that felt like tearing skin from bone, I finally got used to it.

I could live without Julian.

I blocked every account he had, changed my number, and stopped asking about him altogether.

College filled every empty corner of my life.

I made new friends. Learned how to be independent. Learned how to put my own feelings first for once.

Those were things I never could’ve learned while revolving around Julian.

Sometimes, when I chatted with old classmates, they’d mention him.

“Yeah, he completely lost it after graduation. He withdrew every acceptance offer right before the deadline.”

“He never ended up going to that community college either. He went back home for a post-grad prep year so he could reapply.”

“He and Hazel broke up too. Heard she took a leave of absence and moved to LA trying to break into the influencer scene.”

“And get this, Julian’s practice rankings aren’t even top one hundred anymore. Getting into another elite school next year is gonna be rough.”

From the sound of it, Julian wasn’t doing well.

Before I knew it, December arrived.

One day Serena texted me.

[Vivienne, we’re doing a winter break reunion. You better show up this time lol. Last gathering was awkward because there were too many outsiders around, so we’re redoing it properly.]

I didn’t have much going on anyway, so I agreed.

After a few hours on a plane, I returned to my hometown.

The reunion was held at a cozy little bistro downtown. The private room was small, with two crowded tables squeezed inside.

The moment I pushed open the door, Serena jumped to her feet.

“Oh my God, Vivienne! You somehow got even prettier!”

“Our MIT genius is back!” someone shouted.

“Hurry up and shake my hand so I can absorb some Ivy League energy. Maybe then I’ll land a six-figure tech job after graduation.”

I laughed. “You guys are seriously overdoing it…”

Just then, the door opened again.

This time, it was Julian.
