He Gave Her a Wedding, So I Named My Gown Farewell Chapter 09

Adrian moved his gaze back to my face.

I didn’t look at him.

“It’s beautiful. You would’ve looked beautiful wearing it. I just don’t have the chance to see it anymore. I really regret that.”

“Also,” he paused, “Joanna and I keep an ordinary distance now. We’re just friends.”

I smiled and shook my head.

“It doesn’t matter anymore.”

Depp walked over from backstage.

When he saw me standing with Adrian, he held out his hand to Adrian.

“Hello. I’m Depp, Elena’s partner.”

Adrian shook his hand politely.

“Hello.”

“I’ve seen you before. In photos.”

Adrian understood what he meant and gave an embarrassed smile.

“Yeah. I failed to treasure her.”

“No, no. That’s not a bad thing.”

Adrian looked at Depp in confusion.

“Because you failed to treasure her, the world got a designer who could stun everyone.”

I tugged at Depp.

“What are you doing? Don’t joke around like that.”

“Am I wrong? Isn’t that basically the emotional journey?”

“Thank you so much.”

“No need to thank me.”

Depp and I started bantering.

Adrian was left standing to the side.

I could feel his eyes fixed on Depp and me.

Just like I used to stare at him and Joanna.

Now, he probably understood how I had felt all those years.

But this time, he didn’t even have the chance to choose endurance.

Music suddenly sounded behind us.

The interview segment had begun.

“Sorry, Mr. Shaw. I need to take our great designer to her interview now. Please enjoy the exhibition.”

Adrian tried to smile.

He couldn’t.

In the end, he forced out an ugly expression.

Depp and I turned at the same time.

Depp opened his arm, gesturing for me to take it.

I took his arm and walked toward the stage lit by spotlights.

“Miss Elena Glory, how has this global bridal exhibition experience been for you?”

“The strongest feeling is that it was exhausting. Flying around the world nonstop made me want to just live on a plane sometimes.”

The audience burst into laughter.

“As everyone knows, the main gown that won the award is called Farewell. We’d like to ask, under what circumstances and for what reason did you give a wedding dress that name?”

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Adrian still standing where he was.

After thinking for a moment, I decided to tell the truth.

“I used to think a wedding dress was only worn for the words I do. But after a failed relationship, I came to understand things differently.”

“Don’t laugh at me for saying this, but when I first designed this dress, I intended it for my own wedding. When I drew it, I was full of love.”

“Unfortunately, not every bond in this world gets a perfect ending. Later, I tore the draft apart.”

“When I drew it again, more than a year had passed. But I still remembered it clearly. Of course, those memories came with pain from the past.”

“So I wanted to draw it again and bury those memories inside this gown.”

“Farewell is my goodbye to my past. It’s also what I want to tell every woman here. A wedding dress doesn’t have to be worn for someone else. We can step out of the frame that cages us and live for ourselves.”

Thunderous applause rose from the audience.

I didn’t look at Adrian.

I didn’t know what expression he had now.

After lifting my dress and stepping down from the stage, I walked straight to the balcony.

Depp offered to come with me.

I refused.

I wanted to be alone for a while.

The night was deep.

The evening breeze brushed gently against my face.

Standing on the balcony, I looked at the distant lights.

The weight of the past had finally fallen away.

The old story had turned its last page.

At last, I could make peace with myself completely.
