He Gave Her a Million-Dollar House, He Gave Me a 5000 Monthly Allowance Chapter 05

Pierce’s expression grew more smug by the second.

Melissa choked back sobs, rubbing salt in the wound. “Nicole, you can hurt me all you want, but you have no right to hurt my baby!”

Sunlight streamed through the windows, yet all I felt was bone-deep cold. “Pierce, we’re done.”

Pierce let out a cold laugh. “Break up? Where exactly do you think you’ll go without me?”

Truth be told, I hadn’t mapped out every detail of my future yet. But I walked firmly out of their mansion. By dawn, I’d submitted my resignation and booked a one-way flight out of the city.

I’d moved to New York solely for Pierce once. Now, it was time to live for myself.

Sitting in the airport departure lounge, I stumbled on another online post—from Melissa’s secret alternate account.

She’d written a lengthy thread asking strangers for wedding advice, every line dripping with saccharine sweetness.

I clicked into her profile. Her saved posts were all baby supplies, timestamped just a month ago.

One month ago, Pierce had started picking petty fights with me out of nowhere, nitpicking every little thing I did. He’d been trying to get rid of me quickly so he could marry Melissa.

From the very start, I’d never factored into his future plans.

Boarding was about to begin when the police called, telling me to head to the city hospital.

When I arrived, Pierce and Melissa were waiting. The man who’d once sworn to stand by me through anything had now called the cops on me. They’d filed a report claiming I’d assaulted their child.

The medical exam showed no injuries on Julian, but Pierce and Melissa refused to drop the matter. The officers suspected foul play but had no grounds to dismiss the complaint outright.

Pierce tilted his chin upward. “I don’t want any money. All I demand is an apology from you, Nicole.”

Melissa tugged at Pierce’s sleeve. “Don’t. I want compensation from her.”

Pierce froze, pursed his lips, and glanced over at me. “Forget it. She’s just an admin assistant making barely three grand a month. She can’t afford to pay damages.”

They waited for me to apologize. I had no desire to drag this out any longer—not with my flight boarding soon.

I forced myself to lower my head, swallowing every shred of dignity, and said, “I’m sorry.”

The second those three words left my mouth, Melissa could no longer hide her triumphant grin.

Once the police left, I turned to leave as well. Pierce grabbed my wrist before I could step away. “Aren’t you going to thank me? I just got you out of paying compensation.”

I stayed silent, drained and unwilling to engage with him.

Unhappy with my lack of reaction, Pierce kept pushing. “If you’re going to keep being stubborn, I’m changing my mind. I want that compensation now. Pay up, Nicole.”

He tightened his grip on my arm and sneered.

I spoke slowly and calmly. “There’s thirty thousand dollars of my money still in our joint savings. You can keep it, consider it compensation.”

Melissa smiled in satisfaction.

Pierce went rigid, his hold slipping off my hand instantly. “Why throw our shared money away like that? Hey, Nicole—”

I ignored him completely and walked away quickly.

Back at the airport, Pierce’s call came through. After a moment’s hesitation, I answered.

I caught a faint trace of joy in his voice the second the line connected. “Nicole, send me your address. You’ve still got piles of stuff left at my place. Don’t leave it cluttering up my space.”

I replied flatly. “Throw everything away. I don’t want any of it.”

He fell silent on the other end for a long stretch.

Then his tone softened slightly. “When are you coming back? It’s not just your old stuff—I bought something else for you too. The wedding veil you wanted back then. I finally tracked it down.”

I said nothing.

A cold automated announcement echoed in the terminal. “Final boarding call. The gate is now closed.”

Pierce’s breathing grew frantic. He rushed out the question. “Where are you?”

“The airport.”

“Where are you flying to?”

I lifted my suitcase and glanced toward my gate. “It’s none of your business.”
