He Gave Away My House During the Vows, So I Canceled the Marriage Chapter 06

Margaret looked up and kept yelling. “Who the hell are you? Get out of the way! This is a family

matter. It’s none of your damn business!”

Jason, right behind her, frowned. He didn’t recognize the man blocking the way.

But his eyes caught the watch peeking out from the man’s sleeve. The latest limited-edition Jaeger LeCoultre. He’d only ever seen it in magazines.

This man was wealthy. Powerful. Jason didn’t want to make an enemy out of him.

He quickly switched to his practiced professional smile and nodded. “Excuse me, sir. My wife isn’t

feeling well. We need to take her to the hospital. Please step aside.”

The man didn’t move. Instead, he stepped closer.

He looked down at my bruised arm where Margaret had grabbed me, at the dried blood on my lip,

and his brow furrowed.

Margaret lost her patience. She reached out to shove him.

“What’s your problem? Didn’t you hear my son? This is our business. We don’t need outsiders-”

Her hand never touched his jacket.

Behind him, footsteps approached at a jog. Henry ran up to the man and bowed even lower than

Jason had earlier. His face was covered in smiles.

“Mr. Mitchell! There you are! I’ve been looking everywhere for you. Everyone is ready and waiting

for

you to begin…”

Halfway through his sentence, Henry finally noticed the tension in the air.

He looked at Margaret still gripping my arm, then at the bruises on my face.

He paused for a second, then quickly caught himself and shot Jason a look. “Jason, what are you standing there for? Hurry up and escort Mr. Mitchell to his seat.”

Jason’s face went pale as a ghost.

He opened his mouth and forced out a few words. “Hello, Mr. Mitchell.”

Margaret still had no idea what was happening, but one look at her son’s expression told her

enough. She let go of my wrist and whispered, “Who is this guy?”

Jason didn’t answer.

He stared at Thomas Mitchell, his lips trembling like he wanted to explain, but no words came out.

Thomas didn’t even glance at Jason.

He stepped forward and put his arm around me as I swayed on my feet. “Lily. I came too late. I’m sorry you went through this.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but every person in that hallway heard him clearly.

Including the relatives hiding in the corners watching everything unfold.

Henry’s smile froze on his face. He looked at Thomas, then at me, and instinctively took half a step

back from Jason.

Thomas reached out and wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth.

He sighed. “How many times did your parents tell you? Even if you’re going to get married, sign a prenup first. But you wouldn’t listen. You thought love was enough.”

He shook his head. “Now you see. No matter how much love there is, it can’t protect you from a scheming heart.”

When he said “scheming heart,” he finally lifted his gaze to Jason

Jason was pinned in place by that look. His whole body went stiff, and he started stammering. “Mr. Mitchell, I, I didn’t know Lily was your niece…”

“There’s a lot you don’t know,” Thomas cut him off. “If Lily hadn’t cried to me for an hour, do you really think I would have pulled strings to get you into a top tier firm?”

He held up his phone. The call log was still on the screen.

“I heard every word you said in that dressing room. Including the slap. Including you ordering other people to hold her against her will.”

“There are cameras in the hallway. And this call was recorded. You’re a lawyer. You know exactly

what that means.”
