He Drew $9 For Our Wedding. Another Man Offered a Million Chapter 06

They drove back.

Finn was sure I was still in the city.

He knew all my money was with Blair.

But the moment he returned, he learned that his rival had stolen his latest research project.

He threw everything off his desk, “How did this happen?”

“That project was solid! How did we lose it in front of the client?”

Everyone lowered their heads.

A young woman stepped forward, “Of course they wouldn’t lose it.”

“Lena was the one running the whole thing.”

“On five dollars an hour. Doing all the work.”

Finn opened the project file. The name on it wasn’t mine.

“Doesn’t matter. Blair sold the credit for one dollar to someone else.”

“For a year-every project Lena worked on was bought out for pennies.”

He looked up, “What are you saying?”

She tossed her badge on the ground, “I’m saying Lena finally got rid of you.”

“And I quit! A boss like you will run this company into the ground!”

His knuckles went white, “David.”

“Fire everyone who ever stole her credit. Fire all of them. And get me a lawyer.”

“Also-find out who Julian Ashford hired.”

He slumped into his chair after everyone left.

He remembered now.

In school, I was top of my class.

Working part-time, running research projects.

After grad school, I wanted a PhD.

He asked me to join his company instead, “You’ll be the boss’s wife anyway-might as well learn

the business.”

Then came the 9.9 salary draw. The stolen credits.

He couldn’t even remember my job title.

“Lena…”

David traced Julian’s hire quickly.

Finn called him right away.

“Julian. If you have a problem with me, come at me directly.”

Julian’s voice was cold, “Finn. You’re nothing.”

Finn nearly lost it, “What did you do to her?”

“She would never help you unless you forced her-or have you two been together this whole time?”

Silence.

“You humiliated her for five years,” Julian said.

“What do you mean? Tell me―are you two together?”

The line went dead.

He threw his phone at the window. Cracks spread like a web.

“It’s okay, Lena. I can forgive you.” he whispered.

He called Blair, “Come with me.”

His suit was wrinkled.

Cigarette butts everywhere.

Blair crossed her arms, “Are you crazy?”

“Standing out here for hours. Isn’t Julian your enemy?”

He exhaled smoke and saw me.

His eyes lit up.

He grabbed Blair and ran toward me- not noticing the cigarette burning into her arm.

“Let go, Finn!”

He looked happy.

I looked like I’d seen something filthy.

I couldn’t pretend. I turned to leave.

He blocked me with Blair, “Lena, listen-from now on, you’ll control all our money.’

“No more draws. Spend however you want.”

“I’ve already planned the engagement.”

“Best planner. Pink roses-your favorite.”

“And Blair-apologize. She was misled by bad information.”

He shoved Blair toward me.

I stepped back, “Don’t bother. You’ll get my lawyer’s letter soon.”

“The security footage shows you blocked me from saving my

father.”

“The only relationship we have is plaintiff and defendant.”

He saw the coldness in my eyes.

He finally realized

He was really losing me.
