He Deleted My Number After 972 Messages of Love Chapter 25

Ezra’s go-to way to unwind was playing basketball. During PE, I headed back to the classroom to go over my notes while he stayed outside playing with Jesse and the others.

Two girls walked back toward the building, chatting.

“Jesse definitely ran into Ezra on purpose—I saw it.”

“I saw it too. He meant to do it.”

“They were both playing rough the whole game. I don’t know what their deal is.”

“Ugh, just thinking about that huge scrape on Ezra’s leg gives me the creeps. I wonder if the nurse can even treat that.”

I dropped my pen and sprinted straight for the nurse’s office. When I got there, Jesse was standing in front of Ezra, leaning in like he was tending to him. On instinct, I shoved Jesse aside and stepped between them.

“What do you think you’re doing right now?”

Jesse stared at me, expression unreadable.

Ezra spoke up, “He’s the one who helped me get here. It’s fine, don’t overthink it.”

“I overheard those two girls saying Jesse shoved you and caused this injury just a minute ago…”

Jesse offered a faint smile but said nothing.

Ezra shook his head. “It was an accident. He actually blocked a hit for me—scraped up his own arm too.”

My face burned. I turned to Jesse awkwardly. “I’m sorry…”

He didn’t say a word, just turned and walked away. That’s when I noticed the large scrape covering most of his forearm.

Luke had run to get the nurse. He spotted Jesse leaving and hurried after him. “Hey Jesse, hang on a second, where are you rushing off to? You can’t just ignore that, you need to get it bandaged up!”

With Luke chasing after him, I knew Jesse wouldn’t skip treatment. I turned back to Ezra’s leg, staring at the large, bloody scrape across his skin. My frown deepened, my eyes stinging.

He lifted a hand and brushed the corner of my eye. “Hey, don’t cry. It looks way worse than it is, it’s only a shallow cut.”

Trying to distract me, he tossed out a casual line. “Since you feel sorry seeing me banged up like this, you could take pity and go out with me for real.”

I froze for a second, twisting the hem of my shirt nervously. Still, I matched his laid-back tone. “Yeah… okay then.”

Ezra blinked. “Huh?”

His playful grin faded. “Wait—seriously?”

The noise from the playground outside couldn’t drown out the frantic pounding of my heart. I steadied my voice.

“I mean it—I wanna go out with you. And it’s not pity, not even close.”

Under his intense gaze, heat crept up my cheeks, but I pushed on.

“I’ve caught feelings for you, too.”
