“What the hell are you talking about? When did I ever say I’d marry you? You destroyed my family

and you still had the nerve to come looking for me. If it weren’t for you, Lily and I would never have ended up like this.”

Elias was beyond furious. He grabbed Amber by the hair and forced her to her knees in front of me, then started hitting her, over and over, right there at my feet.

I watched them tear into each other without a flicker of emotion. It felt like watching two rabid

animals. I didn’t feel a thing.

Amber’s face was swollen, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth, but she still refused to bow her head. She glared at me with pure hatred and spat, “You bitch. If you hadn’t stolen Elias from

me, we never would’ve broken up. You’re going to hell. All of you are going to hell.”

Elias snapped the moment she cursed me again. He bent down, picked up a rock from the ground,

and slammed it straight into her face.

My mom and I screamed and stumbled back. Blood nearly splashed onto us.

He had completely lost it.

Like a man possessed, Elias kept bringing the rock down on her, again and again, until her face was nothing but a mangled blur of blood and flesh.

“It’s not enough,” he muttered under his breath, striking her again. “Not even close. What she

went through back then was ten times worse than this.”

By the time he finally stopped, Amber lay motionless on the ground, barely recognizable, her

condition unknown.

The neighbors had heard the commotion and called the police.

When officers arrived, Elias was still kneeling over her, mechanically smashing the rock into what was left of her body.

The moment he saw them, he tried to run, but they tackled him to the ground and restrained him.

As they dragged him away, he struggled wildly, then suddenly broke free just enough to drop to his

knees in front of me.

“I wronged you in this life,” he said hoarsely, his eyes desperate. “If there’s another life… can you

give me a chance to make it up to you?”

I looked at him for a long time.

Then I let out a cold laugh and crushed that last bit of hope without hesitation.

“No.”

I took my mother’s hand and walked back into the house, leaving his broken, hysterical screams behind me.

Another life with me? Not a chance.

Amber didn’t make it. She stopped breathing before the ambulance even reached the hospital.

Her parents refused to come claim the body at first. In the end, they only showed up because they

had no other choice.

Even then, all they did was curse her. They refused to hold a funeral and ended up selling her body to a private hospital for research.

When I heard the news from my father, I only felt a brief moment of pity before going back to dance

practice.

A while ago, my dad heard about a new orthopedic specialist at the hospital, a doctor who had trained overseas and had a reputation for working miracles with bone injuries. He pulled every

string he could to get me an appointment.

With that doctor’s help, I could already manage a few basic dance moves again. My fingers were getting more flexible by the day.

It wouldn’t be long before I was back on stage.

As for Elias, he had been a commissioned officer. Instead of setting an example, he got entangled in a mess of affairs and ended up committing murder.

The military court decided to make an example out of him.

After deliberation, they stripped him of all honors and sentenced him to death by firing squad at the

base.

I didn’t go.

My parents did. They went with an odd sense of excitement.

I heard he kept shouting my name the entire time, right up until the moment he died. They said his eyes never closed.

I just smiled and let it go.

He was no longer part of my life.

And he wasn’t worth another thought.
