He Covered for His Fake Innocent Girl, I Sent Both to Prison Chapter 01

He Covered for His Fake Innocent Girl, I Sent Both to Prison Chapter 01

On the day of our wedding, my fiancé was taken away by the police on allegations of raping one of his students.

Still in my wedding dress, I sprinted out after him, desperate to clear his name.

Only to find out that he had turned himself in.

He looked at me, completely unapologetic, and said, “Candy’s family found out she was assaulted, and now they’re forcing her to marry the scumbag who did it.”

“I couldn’t just stand by and watch her life be ruined, so I stepped up and took the blame.”

“Her family agreed to drop the charges as long as I marry her. You’ll handle the university board and the rumors for me, won’t you? Just smooth things over.”

“Candy and I agreed to a three-year sham marriage. After three years, I’ll give you the wedding you deserve. Just wait for me, okay?”

I turned and walked away without a word.

Reaching up, I ripped off my veil and draped it over a stray dog by the side of the road.

Marcus Logan, what makes you think I’d ever wait for you?

Marcus wanted me to rush back to the venue, pacify the university board, and squash the rumors.

Instead, I only did two things.

First, I called the dean’s office and informed the university that I was pulling all my funding from his project and shutting down his lab.

Second, I left the resort entirely and went straight back to our house.

Wiping away my tears, I began purging every single trace of Marcus Logan from my life, piece by piece.

The matching coffee mugs we made during our weekend trip to Redwood Springs, the silk pajamas we wore every night…

And the framed wedding portrait we had picked up just yesterday…

I threw them all into the master bathroom, pulled out a lighter, and watched them burn until they were completely unrecognizable.

As the flames devoured the remnants of our relationship, I called the manager at The Grand Bellevue Resort.

“The wedding is off. Have the groom handle the remaining balance. And please ship everything I left in the holding room back to my house.”

The manager’s voice came back laced with sheer disbelief. “But ma’am, the groom just called and said the ceremony is still on—it’s just delayed by a day. He claimed we printed the wrong name on the banners and photos, and instructed us to change the bride’s name to Candy Sweet.”

A sharp, jagged pain stabbed straight through my heart.

That wedding was a dream I had spent ten years sketching out, detail by detail.

From the floral arrangements to the entire layout, I had spent six months personally crafting every single piece.

Marcus knew exactly what that day meant to us. He knew it was our dream wedding.

Yet he was handing it over to his student on a silver platter?

I took a deep, ragged breath, forcing down the agonizing ache in my chest. “Do whatever you want. Just return my personal belongings. Especially the family heirloom brooch locked in the suite’s safe.”

The manager sounded even more bewildered. “But Ms. Vance, Mr. Logan already cleared out the safe before he left. He said he needed the heirloom as a pre-nuptial gift for his new bride’s family.”

My brain went entirely blank, a deafening ringing filling my ears.

I slammed the phone down and began dialing Marcus’s number like a lunatic.

He hung up on me repeatedly. It wasn’t until the eighteenth call that he finally picked up.

“I thought I told you not to contact me right now,” he snapped, his voice tight with irritated exhaustion. “I need to make this sham marriage look real for Candy’s sake. I was just talking to her parents, and you almost blew my cover!”

My throat felt like it was closing up, but I forced the words out. “Marcus Logan, did you take my brooch?!”

He paused for a second, then let out a casual chuckle. “Oh, that? Candy’s mother mentioned it’s a tradition in their family to have a piece of statement estate jewelry for the bride.”

“I remembered your heirloom was incredibly valuable and gorgeous, so I took it to use as a pre-nuptial gift to appease them.”

My heart felt like it was being ripped out of my chest and trampled on.

“Marcus Logan!!”

My voice shattered, rising to a piercing shriek.

“That belonged to my late mother! It’s her final bequest to me! What right do you have to steal my mother’s heirloom and give it to your mistress? That is theft!”
