He Compared Me To My Father’s Mistress’s Daughter Chapter 07

Damian stood there like someone had driven a spike through his feet. His stomach heaved. He turned his head 

and retched. 

Cameron lunged and grabbed the doctor by the white coat. “You’re lying! That’s impossible! My mom was fine just yesterday!” 

The doctor staggered, caught off guard. He sighed again. “Sir. I’m very sorry for your loss.” 

Cameron’s face crumpled. “No. I don’t believe you.” 

His eyes went red. The tears fell before he even realized he was crying. 

He had to go find her. He had to see her himself. 

Then the OR doors opened. 

A surgeon stepped out, dark hollows carved under his 

eyes. “Family of Aria Donovan?” 

Cameron and Damian both lurched forward at the same 

time, stumbling toward him. 

The surgeon chose his words carefully. 

“She suffered a splenic rupture, massive internal 

bleeding. We tried to repair it, but we can’t get the 

hemorrhage under control. There’s nothing more we can do. 

The family can come in now to say goodbye.” 

Cameron’s legs nearly gave out. He pushed through 

the doors. 

I lay on the table, my face pale as ash. 

He took my hand and squeezed. “Aria. I’m right here. Your brother’s right here. You’re gonna be okay.” Tears poured down his face. 

My eyes opened, slow. They wouldn’t focus. “Cam…” 

A sob caught in his throat. “Yeah. I’m here.” 

I managed the faintest smile. “Bury me next to Mom.” 

He tipped his head back, trying to stop the tears, but his voice shattered anyway. “Don’t be scared, Aria. You’re gonna be okay. I’m taking you home, alright?” 

He pressed his face into my palm. His tears soaked 

through my fingers. “I never should’ve said those things. 

I was wrong. I’m so sorry…” 

I moved my finger, barely, to brush his tears away. “Don’t 

cry. I forgive you.” 

That broke him harder. 

“Aria. I can’t. Please. Don’t leave me. I know I messed up, just please don’t leave me alone.” 

Damian stood to the side, his vision swimming. “Aria…” 

The second I heard his voice, I closed my eyes. 

He panicked. He threw himself toward the bed. “Aria, I’m 

sorry. I was wrong. I love you. I love only you. You’re the only 

woman I’ve ever loved in my life.” 

“I know I was a bastard. I know. Just, please don’t go.” 

My voice came out thin. “Cam. Both of you. Go. I’m tired.” 

Cameron’s tears hit the sheets. “Okay. I understand.” 

He straightened, grabbed Damian by the collar, and dragged him back from the bed. “That’s enough. She doesn’t want to see you. You deaf?” 

Damian didn’t fight it. He let Cameron haul him away, sobbing like a man who’d lost everything. 

I lay there, all the sounds drifting further and further 

away. 

Then the monitor shrieked. 

Cameron’s whole body sagged. The hand that had been. holding Damian’s arm went limp. 

Damian let out an animal cry. “Aria! Don’t leave me!” 

He ran toward the bed, his face soaked with tears.
