He Chose My Sister. I Went Cold. Chapter 03

We were still arguing when news came from the ward that Claire was out of danger.

The moment she saw me, she screamed and shrank back.

“Don’t come near me! You posted those photos. What else do you want? Get out!”

My parents immediately stood in front of her, as if afraid I would pounce.

My throat tightened. I forced my voice to remain steady.

“I didn’t post them. You can check right now.”

I took out my phone to make a call, but Silas snatched it from my hand and smashed it on the floor.

“Are you trying to make this an even bigger deal?”

The sound of the phone shattering echoed in the hallway. The entire corridor went quiet.

Soon, someone recognized me and discreetly raised a phone to record.

“Isn’t that the crazy wife from the Vitale family?”

“She’s kind of pitiful, too. I heard her biological parents have always preferred their other daughter. On her wedding day, the groom left her at the altar and went to a bar.”

“Yeah, I heard that. She chased after him in her Vera Wang gown and got into a fight.”

Their voices drilled into my ears.

The image of my wedding day flashed through my mind.

It had been pouring rain that night.

Silas sat in a booth at the bar, his arm around a long-haired woman, kissing her.

I rushed over and pulled them apart, tearing at the women like a lunatic.

But I couldn’t beat them by myself.

They shoved me to the floor, and my white wedding dress was quickly stained with grime.

Silas stood off to the side, just watching.

Only when a crowd gathered did he slowly step forward and pull them apart.

Then he said to me:

“Go home. Stop embarrassing yourself.”

My body trembled uncontrollably, and my palms went numb.

I turned to leave, but Silas, thinking I was admitting guilt, grabbed me and forced me to Claire’s bedside.

“If you did it, admit it. Apologize to her.”

He shoved me so hard I hit the edge of the bed. The pain drained the color from my face.

I looked at my parents, hoping they would say something—anything.

They both looked away.

In that moment, I still felt a pang of hurt.

But only for a moment.

I had long since stopped hoping for anything from them. I only wanted to protect the child in my belly.

Claire kept watching me.

She was waiting for me to explode like before, waiting for me to turn myself into another joke.

But I only said calmly:

“I’m sorry, Claire.”

Her expression froze, as if she hadn’t expected me to say that.

Silas let go of me, seemingly satisfied.

“It’s good that you’re willing to admit you were wrong.”

I didn’t respond, only looked at him.

“I want a Hermès bag. Will you buy me one?”

Silas froze, his brows knitting together.

Before, he loved using money to get rid of me.

But now that money was all I wanted, he seemed to hate it.

In the end, I still got the bag.

Silas’s expression only grew uglier.

My mother’s was just as unpleasant, as if she found it disgraceful that I would ask for a bag at a time like this.

I ignored them, took the bag, and turned to leave.

But Claire suddenly rushed over and hugged me, her face a mask of affection.

“Sis, I forgive you.”

As soon as she finished speaking, she stumbled backward and collapsed onto the floor.

She looked up at me, her voice trembling.

“Sis, please stop pushing me. I already promised I wouldn’t tell anyone.”

The ward fell silent.

For a second, I didn’t react. Then I took a step toward her.

“What are you talking about?”

Claire immediately cried out even louder and scrambled into Silas’s arms.

Silas held her and glanced at me.

“Don’t be afraid. Whatever you know, just say it.”
