He Chose Her, I Took Back Everything Chapter 09

Helena’s POV

Chloe’s face crumpled on cue.

“Mrs. Reed. We don’t live in the same world. I’m nobody, just a regular she-wolf with a regular job. That kind

of money is more than I could ever manage.”

“Please. Just have some mercy. Take the car back.”

She even managed to squeeze out a few tears. They almost looked real.

“The rest, I’ll get it to you by the end of the month. Please, just give me a chance.”

I played along.

“Fine. Where’s the car?”

A flicker of triumph crossed Chloe’s eyes, there and gone.

“It’s parked nearby. I’ll walk you to it. You can drive it straight home.”

I nodded and followed her. On the way, I texted Caleb my location.

“Come drive this home for me.”

Chloe held out the key. “Mrs. Reed. It’s all yours.”

I didn’t move toward the car. Chloe shifted on her feet.

“Mrs. Reed? Aren’t you going to take it?”

“I’m waiting for Caleb. He’s coming to drive it for me.”

The color dropped out of Chloe’s face. “Why? Why does Mr. Reed need to come? Can’t you drive it yourself?”

“I had wine with lunch. I’m not driving.”

“Then let me get you a driver.” She was already reaching for her phone.

I caught her wrist. “No need. Caleb’s already on his way.”

Chloe was barely holding it together, but she forced a smile. “Really, a driver would be easier. Mr. Reed’s so

busy. Why bother him with this?”

I fixed her with a stare. “He doesn’t mind. So why do you keep pushing?”

“This car gets driven home by Caleb. End of discussion.”

Caleb pulled up before she could argue. I tossed him the key. “Drive it home.”

Caleb caught it, slid behind the wheel, then leaned out the window. “You’re not coming?”

“I’ve got somewhere else to be. Take it back to the estate.”

“Let me drop you off.”

“No need.”

Caleb reached for the ignition, and Chloe lunged. She grabbed his hand.

“Mr. Reed! You can’t drive this!”

Caleb froze. “Why not?”

“Just trust me on this. You can’t drive it. Please!”

“Why? Give me one reason.”

Chloe was sheet-white now. “You just can’t, okay? Mr. Reed, get out of the car. I’m begging you!”

I watched from where I stood, perfectly calm.

“Interesting. A minute ago, you couldn’t wait for me to drive this car away. Now that Caleb’s behind the wheel, suddenly it can’t be driven?” I tilted my head. “What did you do to this car, Chloe?”

Chloe’s eyes darted. “Nothing. I just… I just…”

“Just what?”

That was when the Council Enforcers arrived. Two Enforcers stepped up to Chloe.

“Chloe? You’re being detained on suspicion of attempted murder and intentional property damage. Come

with us.”

Chloe went rigid. “Enforcer, there’s been a mistake. I would never hurt anyone.”

The Enforcer didn’t blink. “We have the recording, a witness statement, and the Pack mechanic’s preliminary

inspection report on the vehicle. You need to come with us. Now.”

The Enforcer pulled out a pair of silver-lined restraints and snapped them onto Chloe’s wrists.

Caleb scrambled out of the car. “Enforcer, this is a mistake. There’s no way Chloe would try to kill anyone!”

I gestured toward the Phantom. “Enforcer, this is the car she intended to use. She tried multiple times to get

me behind the wheel. The Enforcers were already in position, and I recorded everything.”

Chloe’s eyes went wide.

I looked at her and let the smile spread.

“Surprised? I’ve known your plan from the start. I just let you walk yourself right into it.”

The Enforcers took Chloe away. I followed them to the station to give my statement. Then I called my lawyer

I was filing charges: intentional property damage and attempted murder.

Outside the station, Caleb looked like the ground had dropped out from under him.

“How could Chloe do something like this? She’s clumsy, sure, but she’s a good she-wolf. She’d never break the law. There’s no way.”
