He Chose Her, I Took Back Everything Chapter 02

Helena’s POV

Chloe looked like a startled fawn. Her wide eyes glazed over, shoulders caving in as tears spilled fast.

“Mrs. Reed, I’m so sorry. I’ll pay you back, even if I have to sell everything I own.”

“This car costs almost seven figures. I… I…”

Her whole body was shaking now.

Caleb grabbed her arm and pulled her behind him. His frame swallowed her from view, and his Alpha scent grew heavier, possessive, warning me back.

“Helena, is this really necessary? It’s a car. I said I’ll cover it.”

He pulled a black card from his wallet and held it toward me.

“Take my card. Go buy another one. Even if Chloe totals ten more, I can afford it.”

My fingers barely brushed the card before Chloe’s hand shot out and knocked it to the floor.

“Mrs. Reed.” Her voice was steady now. “Every cent you spend is Mr. Reed’s money. And you have the nerve to ask for more?”

Caleb let out a low laugh. “She’s just being greedy.”

I looked down at the Voss Pack Bank card on the floor. My card.

And I smiled.

Offering my own money to pay me back. And calling me greedy for it.

I had accepted Caleb as my mate for one reason. He was easy to manage.

He came from nothing, a failing branch Pack in Silverridge. Alpha blood, sure. But no resources. He needed the Voss name, so he married into it.

The Voss family was one of the oldest banking Packs in Silverridge. He had no real standing, while the Alpha blood running through me was every bit as strong as his.

Even the startup capital for Reed Group had come out of my personal Voss Pack Bank account.

But now? Funny.

“Caleb. You’re forgetting your place.”

That landed. His face went blank.

I didn’t pick up the card. It wouldn’t be worth the plastic it was printed on soon enough.

I walked out of his office and dialed my assistant before the door shut behind me.

“Shut down every Voss Pack Bank card tied to the Reed family. All of them. Including Caleb’s authorized-user black card. Every subsidiary account, frozen. Effective immediately.”

I hung up and drove straight to the Rolls-Royce dealership. I bought a Phantom right off the floor. Then I took it for a drive.

My phone lit up the entire drive. Caleb’s name, every time. I didn’t answer once.

When I got home that night, the whole Reed family was waiting. His parents. His sister, Vanessa Reed.

I barely had the door closed before Caleb’s mother started on me.

“Helena, I don’t want to be harsh, but someone has to say it. So Caleb’s secretary wrecked your car. It was an accident. And because of that, you froze the whole family’s accounts?”

Vanessa jumped in, voice pitched high. “Exactly, Helena. I booked a VIP lounge at the club with my friends this afternoon, and the card got declined when we checked out. Do you have any idea how humiliating that was? In front of all my friends?”

Caleb’s father let out a sharp breath through his nose. “This is what happens when Caleb lets you run wild. You’ve gotten far too used to having your way.”

Caleb crossed the room and pulled me against him, his hand settling on my waist. I felt the mate bond hum, his old trick, trying to soothe me through the bond the way he always used to.

My wolf didn’t even stir. Nothing. The bond fell flat.

“Come on, babe. You’ve made your point. Turn the cards back on, and we’ll pretend this never happened.”

Vanessa’s voice rang out behind him. “We’ll let it slide this once, but what you did was completely out of line.”

“Do this again, and Mom and Dad won’t be so forgiving. Consider this your warning.” She stepped closer. “Keep pushing, and don’t be surprised if Caleb decides to reject you.”

I almost laughed.

“Caleb. Your little secretary told me every cent I spend is your money. You didn’t correct her. You called me greedy.” I held his gaze. “Fine.”

“From now on, we keep our money separate. Nobody owes anyone anything.”

Ever since Caleb and I completed the mate bond, every member of the Reed family had carried a Voss Pack Bank black card. No spending limit.

Their monthly spending alone could have sustained a small Pack branch. I’d never said a word.

Now I wanted Caleb to understand one thing. Everything I’d given him, I could take back whenever I wanted.

Caleb’s voice dropped, going soft. “Babe. That was work. You can’t undercut me like that in front of my people.”

I patted his chest lightly.

“You don’t get to act like the big Alpha at the office and then come home begging. Pick a lane, Caleb.”

Vanessa planted her hands on her hips. “So you’re really not turning our cards back on? You’re going to regret this, Helena.”

I didn’t spare her a glance.

Ridiculous. I had nothing to regret.
