He Chose Her, But I Inherited His Empire Chapter 04

“You knew Blair had an interview tomorrow, and you still dared to throw a pen at her face.”

My father sat behind his desk in the study, in the chair reserved for the head of the family. Two guards stood by the door.

He didn’t raise his voice, but everyone on the estate knew a single sentence from him could decide who was protected and who was cast out.

“Genevieve, your mother was such a good person. How did she end up with a child like you?

“Sometimes I honestly wonder if you’re even hers.

“Haven’t you done enough to her? Now you won’t even leave Blair alone?”

I looked at his face.

I’d been staring at that same disgust for ten years.

It hadn’t been like this before.

When my mother was alive, he loved me, too. He sometimes regretted that I didn’t look like her, but he still called me the most precious gift of his life.

He bought me dresses and jewelry.

On my fifth birthday, he transferred a small winery in Northern California to my name.

When a classmate pushed me in kindergarten, he’d made that family apologize in person and hired combat trainers to teach me self-defense.

He said if anyone bullied me, I could hit back.

He said no matter what happened, he and my mother would protect me.

The man who’d said those words was now interrogating me for Blair’s sake.

“Go to your room. You’re not to come out without my permission.”

From beginning to end, he never once glanced at the gash on my forehead.

And I didn’t dare tell him the principal had demanded to see my guardian.

All these years, he had only ever gone to the school for Blair.
