He Cheated, So I Drank the Love Potion Myself Chapter 23

I poured all my energy into the project.

I did my research, drew up plans, and designed a concept tailored to her personality.

I spent an entire night preparing the shot list and scouting locations.

I was determined to get this right.

But on the third day, she came to see me alone.

Her expression was apologetic.

“Miss Ophelia, I’m so sorry. I don’t think I’ll be able to hire you for the wedding photos after all. Please, keep the deposit as a cancellation fee. You don’t need to refund it.”

I froze.

My heart sank.

But I forced myself to remain professional.

“May I ask why? Was there a problem with the proposal I sent over?”

She looked troubled, hesitating for a moment before she spoke.

“I mentioned you to my fiancé. He said… he knew of you. Your ex-husband, Reed Pierce, is very well-known in their circle. They also know about… some of the things that happened in your past.”

She paused, her tone softening with apology.

“He said that he understands why you had an intense reaction after your ex-husband cheated. But the problem is… your own marriage failed. He’s worried that someone who wasn’t happy in their own marriage might not be able to truly understand that kind of happiness, and that maybe you wouldn’t be able to capture the sweetness we’re looking for.”
