I cut him off.

My voice wasn’t loud, but it was ice-cold.

“I don’t have time to play these games with you. Listen to me very carefully.”

I leaned in closer.

“We are getting this divorce today.”

“If you delay me again, or pull any more stunts, I will package up every last photo I have of you and your assistant, and you and all those other women, and I will email them to every single person in this company. From the front desk receptionist to the board of directors. No one will be missed.”

“I don’t care about the consequences. The worst that happens is I pay a fine. I can afford it.”

“But what about you? If everyone in your company, not to mention your partners and competitors, starts passing those pictures around, will your company, your reputation, that perfect image you’ve worked so hard to maintain—will any of it hold up?”

Reed’s face darkened.

He stared at me for a long moment before finally saying through gritted teeth:

“Ophelia Ricci, you disgust me.”

“Fine. Divorce it is. We’ll go right now.”

I smiled faintly. “Exactly what I wanted.”

This time, no one stopped us.

When the divorce certificate was in my hand, my vision suddenly blurred.

Tears fell, splashing onto the crisp paper.

Reed saw me and sneered.

“What, regretting it already? If you want to change your mind and tear it up, I might still—”

“No.”

I wiped my tears away, shaking my head.

“I’m happy.”

I clutched the certificate tightly, as if I were holding onto something precious.

“I’m finally free.”

This was good.
