He Changed My Major And I Changed My Entire Life Chapter 01

He Changed My Major And I Changed My Entire Life Chapter 01

On the day I got my official university acceptance letter, I broke up with Sean Blair.

He barely glanced at me. “You’re ending things just because I went behind your back and changed your major on the application?”

[Here we go, the sad part begins. Don’t be mad at him, girl. He did it because he thought it was best for you.]

[I mean, let’s be real—Joanie was never exactly a science prodigy. Elementary Education honestly suits her way better.]

[Don’t be so stubborn, sweetie. That guy was completely gone for you. He just had no idea how to say it.]

I stared at the comments, eyes burning. Then I took a deep breath, looked at Sean’s tight-lipped face, and nodded firmly.

“Yes. Exactly that.”

Sean went still. His hands curled at his sides—he clearly hadn’t expected me to hold my ground. He ground out, “Joanie, don’t throw a childish tantrum over nothing.”

“You’re far too inexperienced to make it on your own without me.”

Sean and I had grown up together. For as long as I could remember, he’d made most of my decisions for me. Some I liked, some I didn’t. We argued, we fought, we gave each other the silent treatment—but I always ended up giving in. This time, I was just too tired.

Before I could answer, Katherine Kingston slipped between us and slung an arm around Sean’s shoulders. “Whoa, fighting with your girl again?”

She looked at me, her expression unreadable. “Joanie, come on. A guy like Sean? Top of the class, good-looking? You dump him and you’re gonna kick yourself later.”

“Honestly, this is why I swear off girl drama. You’re not actually breaking up with him, you’re just trying to get a reaction.”

Everything she said sounded like she was looking out for me. But it just made me feel worse.

I lifted my chin. “This is between him and me. It’s none of your business. Also… you’re a girl too.”

Sean’s face went dark. He reached over and pulled Katherine behind him, frowning at me. “Why are you snapping at her?”

“Joanie, quit being oversensitive and dragging innocent people into your petty spat. Katherine’s one of my best friends. She’s different. Don’t go getting jealous out of thin air.”

[Classic tsundere behavior—freaking out because he doesn’t know how to say what he actually means. Kind of cute though.]

[Tbh Katherine’s just a little oblivious. She doesn’t mean any harm. She’ll probably end up trying to set them up later lol.]

[This. She’ll figure out her feelings soon enough.]

[It’s just a major change? They’re still going to the same school. This is such a small thing to break up over. Just give us the cozy, gushy campus love life…]

The words floated in front of me, blurring and stinging my eyes. I looked at the comments, then at Sean shielding Katherine like she was something precious.

Everyone seemed to be telling me to let it go—stop being petty, stop holding a grudge, that this was just a small hurdle before the happy ending.

But I couldn’t picture any future with him anymore. All I saw was that ridiculous acceptance letter, a major I hated, and three full years of my grind went down the drain.

“Sean, I mean it.”

“We’re done.”

Twelve years of knowing each other, and I’d never spoken to him so seriously. He hesitated for a second, then his eyebrows drew together in annoyance, and his voice rose impatiently.

“Suit yourself!”

“Come on, Kat, we’re hitting our regular hangout.”

He stormed off with her in tow. I watched his angry back and suddenly felt like I didn’t know him anymore. He didn’t call me Jo anymore. But her? He called her Kat. He’d forgotten our old secret place, but he had a new “usual spot” with her.

I smiled bitterly and tore the acceptance letter into pieces, ignoring the screams in the comments. Then I called my mom.

Soon, Tom pulled up outside the school. In the car, my mom asked carefully, “So? Did you get into that school you and Sean were talking about? Staying here might be nice—he could still keep an eye on you.”

I was quiet for a moment. Then I said, “I got in. But I’m not going.”

“Mom, I want to move overseas with you and Dad and study molecular biology. Can you help me apply?”

I was done running after him.
