He Called My Sugar Allergy Jealousy—So I Made Him My Ex Chapter 03

My cries caught the paramedics’ attention downstairs.

They looked up, but Derek clamped a hand over my mouth and dragged me back into the living room before they could see me.

“Are you out of your mind? You want everyone to know you’re jealous of my cousin? What do you think people are going to say?”

“Clara, you’ve already hurt her once. Are you trying to kill her?”

He cut off what little air I had left.

I couldn’t break free, so I bit down hard on his finger.

Just then, another knock came at the door.

“Hello, sir. I heard someone calling for help. Is this your apartment? Yours was the only 911 call in this building.”

“I’m in the living room!”

The moment I spoke, Derek scooped me up and threw me into the pet room.

Blood was pouring from between my legs. The movement inside my stomach was getting weaker and weaker.

Panic took over.

He shoved me into Max’s kennel, his voice laced with warning.

“That little bit of blood won’t kill you. Stop pushing your luck.”

Then he turned around and shut the door.

I collapsed inside the kennel, too weak to move. I gripped the bars until my fingers were raw and bloody.

I heard the conversation outside.

“Sir, we just heard someone downstairs.”

“That was me watching TV. If you keep cursing my family, I’ll call the cops.”

Derek was clearly losing patience.

The paramedics had obviously realized something was wrong and kept pressing him.

“Why’s your dog barking like that?”

“He’s hungry. Dogs bark when they’re hungry. If you hadn’t kept bothering me, I would’ve fed him already.”

The voices outside fell silent.

More and more blood pooled beneath me. A part of me died inside.

Was my baby really going to die like this?

Derek walked back in. The moment he saw the blood spreading across the floor, he froze.

“Why’s there so much blood?”

“Don’t tell me you’re actually pregnant.”

He’d just crouched down when another knock came from outside.

Derek grabbed a stick and stormed toward the door.

“Keep it up and—”

The second he saw who it was, his voice softened.

“Megan? What are you doing here?”

Megan’s voice came from the doorway.

“Derek, I was worried Clara might get the wrong idea, so I came to explain.”

“And after seeing how bad she looked on that video call, I thought I should come check on her.”

Derek looked a little embarrassed and waved it off.

“She’s fine. She’s in the pet room playing with the dog.”

Megan paused, then put on a pitiful look.

“Derek, maybe we should keep our distance from now on. I don’t want Clara making a scene like she did today. It’s embarrassing for both our families.”

Derek’s face fell. “Did Clara say something to you behind my back?”

“Don’t worry. I’m married, but I’m still your cousin. Since when does family have to avoid each other?”

Megan shook her head, tears welling in her eyes.

“Derek, I don’t want everyone turning on me and calling me a homewrecker.”

“I’ll get rid of the baby. After that, we shouldn’t see each other anymore.”

Megan was pregnant?

So the grandchild Patricia had talked about wasn’t mine. It was Megan’s.

My blood ran cold. I threw myself against the kennel, rattling the metal bars.

Megan cried even harder.

“Clara, don’t worry. I won’t let this baby be born. I’ll get an abortion right now.”

She turned and walked away.

Derek didn’t hesitate. He chased after her.

The slam of the front door drowned out the kennel door bursting open.

Max grabbed my collar, dragging me out.

I clenched my teeth and crawled forward one step at a time.

It took everything I had just to make it from the pet room to the living room.

To stay conscious, I bit down hard enough to split my lip.

I cradled my stomach with both hands and inched along the wall.

It was only a few steps to the door. It took me twenty minutes.

The front door was right there. My hand finally found the handle.

I heard the lock click, and the door opened.

Derek had been so desperate to chase after Megan that he’d forgotten to lock it.

I carefully stepped outside, but my foot caught on the threshold.

I fell forward, my head slamming into the railing as my vision went black.

Just before I blacked out, I saw figures in white rushing toward me.

“Officer, the pregnant woman is right here!”
