As soon as I said that, Sophie looked as if she had been deeply wronged.

Her eyes reddened, and she immediately hid behind Ethan.

“Ethan, I really didn’t do it on purpose.”

“I only wanted to apologize properly to Lila, so I barely touched her hearing aid.”

“How was I supposed to know it would turn out like this?”

Without even thinking, Ethan instinctively shielded Sophie behind him.

His brows knitted tightly, and when he looked at me, his gaze was full of impatience and

obvious bias.

“Lila, can you stop being so aggressive?”

“It’s just a hearing aid. How big of a deal can it be?”

“Sophie already apologized to you. Why do you have to keep holding onto it?”

“She didn’t do it on purpose. Can’t you be the bigger person for once?”

Listening to him defend her without even asking what had happened felt like ice-cold

seawater pouring into my chest.

So this was what twelve years of growing up together amounted to.

In his eyes, my hurt was worth nothing next to Sophie’s side of the story.

Just then, Finn, who had been standing quietly beside me, took half a step forward.

He took out his phone and held it up in front of Ethan.

The photo on the screen was crystal clear.

It had captured Sophie raising her arm and deliberately letting go so my hearing aid fell into

the ocean.

Finn’s tone was polite and distant, but his stance was firm.

“I was standing by the water the entire time, and I saw everything with my own eyes.”

“She deliberately damaged someone else’s property. This wasn’t an accidental touch.”

“The photo is proof. The facts are right in front of you. What else is there to argue about?”

Ethan stared at the photo on the screen, and his face went abruptly pale.

He lifted his eyes to Finn, his tone filled with obvious wariness.

“Who are you?”

“I’m Lila’s personal guide for this graduation trip. My name is Finn Sullivan.”

Finn gave a slight nod, introducing himself with calm composure.

After hearing that, Ethan let out a disdainful scoff.

He casually tossed the phone back to Finn, his eyes full of mockery.

“A guide?”

“Lila, you really haven’t changed at all.”

“No matter where you go, you have to cling to someone. You’ll never get rid of that need to depend on other people. At the end of the day, you’re still an overgrown baby who refuses to

grow up.”

“Drop the attitude. People you meet out there aren’t reliable. Come with us.”

Each cruel sentence pierced my heart like tiny needles.

But after everything that had happened, I was no longer as hurt as I used to be.

I slowly lifted my eyes, and a faint cold smile curved my lips.
