He Built A Garden For Her Flowers But Only To Help His Secret Love Win A Prize Chapter 05

The world went dead silent. Charles‘ eyes were wide open- everything happened so fast he couldn’t process it, couldn’t react at all. 

It was the nanny’s sharp scream that pulled him back to the screaming world around him. 

Firefighters got to the hillside villa fast, but the blaze was too intense to put out. 

“Savannah! Savannah Evans!!!” He fought like crazy to get inside, but the firefighters pulled him back. “Sir, the fire is too dangerous, stay back! Don’t interfere with our rescue!!” 

“My wife is in there! My wife is in there!!” His face was bright red. “I’ll pay you any amount of money to get my wife out! Any amount! My wife is in there!” 

All he could think about was the calm smile I’d given him right at the end, like I already knew what was coming. 

“Charles, calm down!” 

Cloris had showed up out of nowhere. She was supposed to come pick up the flowers today, she never expected to walk 

into this. 

Honors didn’t matter to her. Now that I was dead, Charles could be with her without being labeled a cheater–that was 

worth far more. 

Everything she’d done this whole time was just to marry 

Charles. 

She could barely hide the smile on her face, but she couldn’t let it show. She wrapped her arms around Charles from behind. “Calm down, Charles! Just calm down! Don’t hurt yourself!” 

Between the firefighters holding him back and Cloris clinging to him, all he could do was watch the fire eat everything up, completely helpless to do anything. 

The fire burned for hours. I, and everything I loved most, vanished right in front of his eyes. 

He collapsed to the ground, completely spent. Cloris stayed right beside him, like a hyena waiting to scavenge. 

The firefighters laid a pile of charred remains out in front of Charles and said, “These are the victim’s remains recovered from the scene. There were chemicals stored in the house, and they caused a huge explosion when they caught fire. There’s no intact body left.” 

Normally, people who burned to death left charred remains, but our villa stored chemicals for growing flowers–more than enough to turn a whole person to ash. 

Staring at the pile of remains, Charles‘ lips trembled nonstop. His breath came in ragged gasps, his pupils shook out of control. “No, no, no this can’t be, this can’t be her, no! That’s not how it is! No! You’re all lying to me! You’re all lying!! She was supposed to go to the competition she wanted more than anything! She couldn’t just die like this!” 

This was exactly how I’d acted back then, screaming at the firefighters who’d found my parents‘ remains, insisting it couldn’t be them. 

“We’re sorry for your loss, sir.” 

Cloris put on a grieving expression. “Charles, stop this. 

Savannah’s gone. If you keep going like this, she won’t be in 

peace.” 

“I said this isn’t her! This isn’t! Are you all fucking deaf?! Get 

out! All of you get out!!!” he roared. 

“Charles, just calm down…” 

“Get out! Don’t touch me! Get out!!!” 

Before she could finish, Charles shoved her away, and she fell hard on the ground. 

The color drained from Cloris‘ face, her body went stiff. She’d 

never expected Charles to react like this. 

But the pile of remains was still right there in front of him, unchanged. When a ring fell out of the pile of bones and clattered to the ground, he couldn’t deny it anymore. This was her. 

The sudden, crushing agony that hit him was more than he could bear. 

Charles crashed to the ground. Right before he passed out, he stared blankly at the wedding ring. He’d designed that ring himself. He couldn’t mistake it.
