He Broke My Heart, My Family Broke His Empire Chapter 19

Worried Julian might try something, my brother insisted on bringing eight bodyguards to the meeting at the law office.

When I saw him, I almost didn’t recognize him. He had lost a shocking amount of weight. His face was covered in stubble, and his once-immaculate suit was hopelessly wrinkled.

But when he saw me, a flicker of light returned to his dull eyes.

“Clara,” he said hoarsely, a pathetic, fawning note in his voice. “Your injuries… are they better?”

I subconsciously touched my arm, where the cold had once stolen all feeling.

“More or less,” I answered calmly.

He seemed to let out a breath he’d been holding, nodding again and again. “That’s good. That’s good.”

After a brief, heavy silence, he finally got to the point. He lowered his voice, almost begging.

“Could you… call off the attacks on Ashworth Group?”

I didn’t speak. I just pushed the divorce agreement across the table toward him.

“Sign it, and I’ll persuade my brother to stop.”

Julian picked up the pen, his fingertips trembling. He stared into my eyes, forcing a smile that was uglier than a sob.

“Clara, is there really no chance for us? Not at all?”

Before I could answer, a sharp female voice shattered the suffocating silence.

“Julian Ashworth, I finally found you!”

It was Felicity. She stormed into the office, her face pale and twisted with a sort of madness. She marched straight to the desk, pointed to her swollen belly, and slapped a pregnancy report down in front of Julian.
