He Abandoned Our Wedding, I Destroyed His Life Chapter 07

He had just let me sit there.

Standing in the silent room, he admitted it to himself for the first time.

He hadn’t treated me well at all.

He began frantically pulling open drawers and cabinets, searching for any sign of me.

There was nothing.

He froze.

The cheesecake he’d promised me had ended up with Chloe.

The roses he’d bought on his way home had also gone to Chloe, because she’d said she liked them.

It had happened more times than he could count.

Things that were meant for me had ended up in her hands.

That’s why the apartment was empty.

Then he thought of Chloe’s apartment. The Cartier bracelet, the expensive mattress, the complete smart-home system, the closet full of designer dresses—all gifts from him.

The more he thought, the more panic seized him. He drove back to the firm.

The managing partner was just leaving for the night when Matteo cornered him at the office door.

“Did Adriana really resign?”

The partner gave him a weary look.

“You didn’t know?”

“She was very firm about it. Said it had nothing to do with you and that she’d explain everything to you herself.”

Matteo’s throat closed up.

He remembered all the times I had looked like I wanted to say something, only to be cut off.

Every single time, Chloe had pulled his attention away.

Even today, he had been defending Chloe.

All day, he had never once given me a chance to speak with him alone.

His mind had been completely consumed by Chloe.

He grabbed the partner’s shoulder.

“Do you know where she went?”

The partner shook his hand off.

“She’s not my employee anymore. How would I know? Contact her yourself.”
